If the notice instead mentions a Rivalry Contract, that is a different, season-specific mechanic.
First, identify the message on your screen
Check the match notification and quest tracker. “Bounty Poached” refers to the classic bounty outcome described in older guides; a Rivalry Contract belongs to a separate Chapter 7 Season 2 feature reported in 2026. Do not assume the two mechanics share the same rules or are available in every mode.
If another player eliminates a classic bounty target
Treat the target as eliminated and that bounty as over; you do not need to keep pursuing that target for the contract. GamesRadar’s bounty guide and Dexerto’s Season 8 guide report that the hunter received some Gold Bars and bounty-related quest progress when another player got the elimination. GamesRadar describes the payout as smaller than the normal bounty reward.
Those reward and quest details come from past-season guides, not current official confirmation. Epic’s December 2, 2020 announcement described the original Season 5 bounty system as a timed hunt and said the party would be rewarded once the target was eliminated or the hunter evaded capture. If the notice mentions a Rivalry Contract
A Rivalry Contract is not the same as a classic bounty. Insider Gaming’s March 19, 2026 report on Chapter 7 Season 2 says that when another player eliminated your Rival, a contract dropped. The first player to reach it claimed attribution for the elimination; if another player picked it up first, that player became your new Rival. If you want the elimination attributed to you under that reported mechanic, head to the dropped contract promptly.
This is season-specific secondary reporting, not confirmation from an official Epic support page. Check the live match notice and quest tracker for what applies in your game: Insider Gaming’s Chapter 7 Season 2 Rivalry report.

Use the live quest tracker for challenge progress
If the elimination affects a current challenge, rely on the in-game quest tracker and the message shown during your match. Historical guides report bounty-quest credit for a poached target, but current challenge behavior and classic bounty availability have not been confirmed by the cited official material. Epic’s glossary defines an eliminated player as someone taken out of the game completely: Fortnite glossary.
