If a crypto trading bot seems to spot a setup but places no order, trace the event from market data to order status. The signal may never have met the bot’s exact rules, a strategy guard may have suppressed it, an alert or API request may have failed, the exchange may have rejected the order, or the order may exist but not yet appear in the bot’s interface. Work through those stages in order before retrying.
The Binance-specific details below apply to Binance Spot as a documented example; they do not establish how Binance derivatives, another exchange, or a particular bot behaves.
Start by locating where the event disappeared
A chart that appears to show a setup is not proof that the bot’s configured condition evaluated as true. The useful question is not simply “Why didn’t it trade?” but “What is the last confirmed event in the execution path?” Follow one timestamped event from its input data through the decision, any filters and handoffs, the exchange request, and the resulting order state.
- Signal evaluation: Did the configured rules evaluate true for the intended market and interval?
- Strategy or risk filter: Did the bot deliberately suppress the action?
- Delivery: If execution depends on an alert or webhook, was it delivered and accepted?
- Exchange request: Did the bot send an authenticated order request, and what response came back?
- Order state: Was the order rejected, left open, partially filled, or completed—or is its status still catching up?
Use the bot’s available logs and the exchange’s records to identify the last stage with evidence. Not every bot exposes all of these records; if a stage is opaque, its absence is a reason to seek the corresponding log or support information, not proof of what happened.

Did the signal actually evaluate true?
Compare the bot’s decision with its actual configuration rather than judging the chart by eye. For the event in question, verify the exact symbol, market, timeframe, candle or tick timestamp, indicator inputs, and each rule’s result. A candle may still be forming, an input may differ from the one displayed on a chart, or a symbol or interval may be configured differently than expected.
Where the bot supports decision logs, record the final decision and the first condition that failed. That makes it possible to distinguish a signal that never formed from one that passed all entry conditions. A visual pattern alone cannot establish which occurred.
Is the input data fresh and mapped correctly?
Check that the bot is receiving updates and evaluating the intended symbol and interval. Compare the latest input timestamp with the event time, and look for stale, missing, or incomplete data. Also verify that the bot’s symbol spelling and market type match the data source it uses.
Binance documents REST and WebSocket interfaces for Spot market data, but the existence of those interfaces does not confirm that a particular bot is connected, subscribed, or interpreting their data correctly. If data appears stale or mismapped, resolve that before diagnosing execution.

Did a strategy or risk rule suppress the trade?
A signal can be valid while the bot intentionally declines to act. Inspect the configured guards that apply to the strategy, such as cooldowns, position limits, duplicate-signal rules, trading schedules, and balance checks. Look for a record showing whether a guard ran and whether it blocked the action.
Keep this outcome separate from an exchange failure: when a bot-side rule suppresses an action, the bot may never send an order request to the exchange.
Did an alert or internal handoff arrive?
If the strategy passes its rules but execution depends on an alert or webhook, trace that handoff. Record the event ID, timestamp, payload, delivery status, and downstream response. Check that the payload’s symbol, market type, side, and order type use the format expected by the receiving system.
These are general integration checks, not product-specific webhook instructions. The correct payload format, delivery behavior, and status indicators depend on the bot and receiving service.

What do the exchange request and response show?
Inspect the raw request and response, preserving the HTTP status, exchange error code and message, sanitized parameters, and any response identifiers. Never include API secrets in logs or share them while troubleshooting.
For Binance Spot, secure endpoints require valid authentication, and signed endpoints require a signature. Binance says API keys and secret keys are sensitive. A key also cannot place trades by default: Binance states, “By default, an API key cannot TRADE. You need to enable trading in API Management first.” Its documentation defines TRADE permission for placing and canceling orders and USER_DATA permission for private account information such as order status and trading history. Check the current Binance Spot API documentation for the relevant endpoint and permission requirements.
A failed or missing request response is not the same as a rejected exchange order. Use the response code and message, where available, to identify whether the request reached an endpoint and what the exchange reported.
Could current exchange rules reject the order?
A strategy may produce an order that does not satisfy the exchange’s current symbol or account rules. Binance Spot documents filters covering price bounds and tick increments, quantity limits and increments, notional requirements, and maximum open orders. Check the live rules for the relevant symbol rather than relying on a remembered value or an example in documentation; those values can vary by symbol or account.

Compare the intended order’s price and quantity with the applicable filters, then inspect any rejection code or message. Binance’s Spot filter documentation describes the filter types. A filter rejection is an exchange-side constraint, distinct from a bot-side rule that prevented the request from being sent.
Is the order missing, or is its status delayed?
Do not equate an unfilled order with no order. The request may have resulted in an open order, a partial fill, a rejection, or a completed trade. Match the response identifiers against the exchange’s order-status records before deciding what happened or attempting another order.
Binance describes its API as asynchronous and says some response delay is normal. Its documentation distinguishes matching-engine, memory, and database data sources, which can have different potential delays. A bot display or query may therefore lag behind another record. Check the order response and exchange status using the available identifiers, and allow for status propagation rather than assuming the first missing display means the order failed. See the Binance Spot REST API documentation for its response and data-source details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Did the exchange throttle the request?
For Binance Spot, the documented unfilled-order count limit can produce an HTTP 429 response with a Retry-After header. Binance notes that unsuccessful order responses are not guaranteed to include order-count headers. Preserve the response and follow the exchange’s retry instructions; repeated rapid retries can obscure the original failure and create more requests to diagnose. Consult Binance’s Spot API rate-limit documentation for the applicable behavior.

Reproduce the issue without risking a live trade
When you need to determine whether a configuration change resolves the problem, use a supported test environment if the bot and exchange support one. Binance identifies an API-only Spot Testnet for practice. Confirm that the bot is pointed at the intended environment before interpreting a test order as a live trade.
Binance says the endpoints, streams, and parameters in its official repository are supported and provides a changelog for changes. Check the Binance Spot API repository for current documentation and the Spot Testnet entry point. Testnet behavior is a controlled reproduction path, not evidence that a live order was placed.
What evidence to collect before changing settings
For a single missed trade, keep a compact, timestamped record so the failure stage can be identified without exposing credentials:
- The configured symbol, market type, timeframe, and event timestamp.
- The relevant inputs and rule-by-rule decision, including any bot-side suppression reason.
- For an alert or handoff, the event ID, sanitized payload, delivery status, and downstream response.
- The sanitized exchange request parameters, HTTP status, exchange code and message, and response identifiers.
- The matching exchange order-status record, including whether it is open, partially filled, rejected, or complete.
If those records do not reveal the break, the key details needed to narrow it down are the bot name, exchange and market (Spot, margin, or derivatives), relevant signal and order logs, and any API response or rejection code. Binance Spot documentation is a useful reference only for Binance Spot behavior; verify the relevant exchange and bot documentation for other setups.
