To keep a Snapchat Streak, exchange qualifying photo or video Snaps in the relevant chat every day. For a one-to-one Streak, both people must send a Snap; for a group Streak, most members must send one in the Group Chat. Text Chat messages do not count. If the hourglass appears, send Snaps promptly—Snapchat does not state a fixed countdown.
What counts toward a Snapchat Streak?
One-to-one chats
Both people need to send each other a photo or video Snap in the chat every day. Sending a Snap yourself does not keep the Streak alive if the other person does not send one too. Snapchat says a Streak expires after more than a day without a new Snap from everyone in the chat, but its help page does not specify a universal time-of-day cutoff. Group chats
For a group Streak, most members of the Group Chat must send a photo or video Snap every day. A text Chat message is not a qualifying Snap. The group rule differs from a one-to-one Streak: not every member has to send one, but most do.
How to maintain a Streak day to day
- Open each chat whose Streak you want to keep. Send a photo or video Snap in that chat each day.
- Make sure the exchange is reciprocal in one-to-one chats. Each person needs to send a qualifying Snap; your own Snap alone is not enough.
- For group Streaks, get most members to send a Snap in the Group Chat. Ordinary Chat messages do not meet this requirement.
- Act promptly when you see the hourglass. Snapchat Support says, “If you see an hourglass emoji next to the Chat, your Streak is about to expire!” It is a warning, not a published number of hours remaining. The adjacent fire emoji marks the Streak, and its number shows its age in days.
What to do if a Streak expires
Open the chat or chat feed and look for the in-app Restore control. If Snapchat offers it, follow the displayed steps. The control is the clearest indication that the app currently offers a restoration option, but it does not guarantee success. Snapchat says only recently expired Streaks can be restored; if Restore is missing, the Streak usually ended too long ago. If an in-app attempt fails, you can submit a support request to Snapchat, but a request is not a promise of recovery.

Restore costs and Snapchat+ terms
Snapchat says every user gets one free Streak Restore. After that, the price is shown in the app and varies by country, so there is no single universal price to rely on. Snapchat+ subscribers get one free in-app Restore per subscription month, with the monthly period starting on the subscription anniversary date. Unused monthly Restores do not roll over, and additional Restores may require an in-app purchase. Snapchat+ is not required to maintain a Streak, and its Restore benefit does not remove the recent-expiry restriction. Check Snapchat’s current restoration guidance and the price shown on your device before proceeding.
Can you restore several Streaks at once?
Snapchat’s current help guidance documents Restore All for multiple eligible Streaks on iOS only. If you do not see that option, check affected chats individually: an individual Restore control may still be available.
