Enter your iPhone’s details and describe its condition accurately; the estimate is not final until the device is assessed. Before upgrading, compare the verified credit or gift card with the full cost of the new phone.
Where to check your iPhone trade-in value
Get an online Apple estimate
Start with Apple Trade In. Enter the iPhone’s model and other requested details, then answer the condition questions as accurately as you can. Apple says the estimated value depends on the device model and condition. The linked page is Apple’s US storefront; available amounts and transaction details may vary by country.
Ask for an assessment at an Apple Store
You can also take the iPhone to an Apple Store and ask for it to be assessed. An in-store assessment may differ from an online estimate if the phone’s actual condition does not match its description.
Why the estimate may change
Apple verifies a device after receiving it, so treat an online amount as an estimate rather than a guaranteed trade-in value. Damage, faults, or other differences from the condition you reported can affect the assessed amount. Describe the phone honestly when requesting the estimate, and review the final offer before accepting it.

Compare the trade-in outcome with the upgrade cost
Apple says eligible trade-in value can be applied toward a purchase or provided as an Apple Gift Card. A device that is not eligible for credit can be recycled for free. These outcomes are not the same as cash in hand, so consider what form of value you will receive and whether it suits how you plan to upgrade.
If you are comparing Apple with a carrier or resale service, request current quotes for the same iPhone and condition. Compare the final verified value, how it is paid, any purchase or eligibility conditions, and the inspection or return deadline. Those terms vary by provider; check each offer directly rather than assuming one option pays more.
