Sometimes—but there is no answer that applies to every China-version OPPO. Compatibility depends on the exact model and ColorOS/Android build, whether the phone is Play Protect certified, and the requirements of your car, payment card, country, and bank. Installing Google apps alone does not establish that the phone is certified or that Android Auto, tap-to-pay, or banking apps will work.
Why the exact model and software build matter
“China-version OPPO” describes a market variant, not a single device configuration. Before buying or relying on one, get the exact model number and installed ColorOS/Android version. A seller’s general assurance that Google apps can be installed is not proof that a particular handset will pass Google’s compatibility or security checks.
OPPO says China-version phones do not have Google Play Store or other Google apps preinstalled; its support answer discusses a China-market Reno and does not establish the post-setup status of every OPPO model. OPPO’s China-version phone guidance should therefore be read as a market-specific explanation, not a guarantee about every device or later software build.
Check Play Protect certification
On the phone, open Play Store → profile icon → Settings → About and look for Play Protect certification. Google says certified devices have passed Android compatibility testing and are eligible to include licensed Google apps. Google also warns that apps and features may not work correctly on uncertified devices, which may lack some security protections or updates. Turning off Play Protect scanning does not change an uncertified status. See Google’s certification guidance.

Will Android Auto work?
It may, but OPPO’s general setup instructions are not confirmation that every China-market model or ROM supports Android Auto. OPPO describes installation through phone settings or the Play Store for Android 8 and later, without establishing compatibility for every handset sold in China. Use OPPO’s Android Auto installation guidance as setup help, not model-specific proof.
Before depending on Android Auto, confirm support for the exact phone and test the connection method you plan to use—wired or wireless—with your own car. The car, its infotainment system, and the phone’s software configuration all matter; a successful app installation alone does not establish that the connection will work.

Will Google Wallet work?
Separate opening the Wallet app from making contactless payments. The app has baseline Android and Google Play Services requirements; tap-to-pay has additional country, card, NFC, and device-security requirements. Meeting the app requirement does not guarantee that payments can be set up.
Wallet app and tap-to-pay requirements
Google says the Wallet app requires Android 9 or later and up-to-date Google Play Services. For contactless payments, the phone also needs NFC enabled, Google Wallet set as the default NFC payment app, a screen lock, software that meets Google’s security requirements, and a supported contactless payment method in the user’s country. The issuing bank and card must support Wallet contactless payments. Check Wallet app requirements, tap-to-pay requirements, and card setup guidance.

Google says contactless payments may not work on rooted phones, custom ROMs, modified factory software, untested or unapproved phones, or devices with an unlocked bootloader. If the device fails Google’s security requirements, contactless payments cannot be made; Google recommends using original Android software. See Google Wallet troubleshooting. Google Play Services also provides Wallet functionality; its separate guidance says some functions require Android 8.1 or later, while the Wallet app itself has the Android 9 requirement above. Google’s Play Services information explains that distinction.
Will banking apps work?
There is no universal yes or no. Each bank sets its own supported-device and security rules, so certification or software integrity problems that affect apps generally may also matter to banking apps—but they do not establish how a particular bank will treat a particular OPPO model.

Ask each bank in your country whether its app supports the exact model and software build. Confirm that the app installs and that you can complete login, biometric authentication if you use it, and push or two-factor authentication notifications. An app opening successfully is not enough if a later security check or notification fails.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before buying or relying on the phone
- Identify the device: Get the exact model number and installed ColorOS/Android version from the seller.
- Check certification on that handset: Ask the seller to show the Play Store certification status at Play Store → profile icon → Settings → About.
- Test Android Auto in your car: Verify the phone with your vehicle and the connection method you intend to use.
- Check Wallet prerequisites: Confirm NFC is present, then try setup with your actual card and country. Successful Wallet installation does not by itself prove tap-to-pay eligibility.
- Check every required bank app: Contact the bank about the exact model and test installation, login, biometrics, and notifications where possible.
Compare candidates using the model and build, Play Protect status, Android Auto behavior in your vehicle, NFC and Wallet eligibility for your card and country, and the requirements of each bank app. Do not assume that adding the Play Store or sideloading Google apps changes certification.
