Save your car’s location in a map app as soon as you park. Apple Maps can mark it automatically on iPhone after the phone disconnects from the car’s Bluetooth or CarPlay system; Google Maps documents automatic saving on iPhone, while its Android instructions use a manual save. In a garage or large lot, add a photo or note with the level, section, or stall number—a map pin alone may not tell you where to look.
Save your parked car in Apple Maps on iPhone
Apple Maps can add a parked-car marker when your iPhone disconnects from the car’s Bluetooth or CarPlay system and you exit the vehicle. The phone must have connected to the car first, and the parked-car display setting must be enabled.
- Pair your iPhone with the car using Bluetooth or CarPlay, and make sure Maps is allowed to show the parked-car location.
- Park, disconnect from the car, and leave the vehicle. Maps should drop a parked-car marker.
- When you return, open Maps and select the marker to get directions.
Apple says the feature does not mark familiar locations such as home or work. If the marker is missing, check the parked-car display setting and confirm that the iPhone connected to the car. See Apple’s instructions for finding your parked car with Maps.
Save your parked car in Google Maps on iPhone
Google Maps documents automatic parking-location saving on iPhone. A Bluetooth, CarPlay, or USB connection can provide a clear signal that you parked. Google also describes an optional motion-based detection setting for parking without Bluetooth; Location Services set to “Always” can help detection work when Maps is in the background or the screen is off. Setting names and availability may vary by app version.

To save the location yourself, open Google Maps, tap the blue location dot, then tap “Saved parking.” To find it later, open the saved pin on the map or choose “Saved parking” from the search bar, then tap the location for directions.
Google says an iPhone or iPad parking marker stays saved for 48 hours unless you remove it or start driving. Read Google Maps Help for iPhone and iPad for the current automatic and manual options.

Save your parked car in Google Maps on Android
Google’s Android instructions describe a manual save. Make it part of your parking routine rather than assuming the app will save the location automatically.
- Open Google Maps shortly after parking.
- Tap the blue dot showing your current location, then choose “Save your parking.”
- When you return, tap the search bar, choose “Parking location,” and tap “Directions.”
Google says the Android parking location remains until you remove it. You can move or share the saved pin, or clear it. See Google Maps Help for Android.

Add the details a map pin cannot show
A pin can identify the general location of your car, but it may not capture its level or aisle in a multilevel garage or sprawling lot. Add a photo or a note when saving the location. Record the floor, section, bay or stall number, and a nearby landmark; Google also suggests noting time remaining where that is useful.

- iPhone connected to a car system: Apple Maps’ parked-car marker depends on the iPhone having connected through Bluetooth or CarPlay before disconnecting.
- iPhone using Google Maps: Google documents automatic saving as well as the option to save manually.
- Android using Google Maps: Follow Google’s documented manual flow: tap the blue dot and select “Save your parking.”
- Garage or large lot: Pair the pin with a note or photo that records the local details you will need to find the car.
A saved parking point is a record of where the phone saved the location, not live vehicle tracking. If someone else moves the car, the saved point does not update to follow it.
