To delete saved location history, first identify where it is stored: Google Maps Timeline, Apple Significant Locations & Routes, and Apple Maps Visited Places are separate records with separate controls. Follow the matching steps below; clearing one does not erase every location-related record from your phone or account.
Delete Google Maps Timeline on Android
These steps apply to Google Maps version 11.106 and later. If a menu is missing, update Google Maps and check again. Google says Timeline is unavailable on Android Go devices.
- Open Google Maps and tap your profile picture or initial.
- Tap Your Timeline.
- Tap More, then Location & privacy settings.
- Under Location settings, select Delete all Timeline data to clear the full history, or Delete range of Timeline data to choose dates.
- Follow the prompts to confirm.
Delete a day or one visit
To remove a single day, open that day in Timeline, tap More, choose Delete day, and confirm. To remove one visit, open that visit’s More menu and choose Remove.
Set Timeline to delete older data automatically
In the Timeline location settings, choose Auto-delete Timeline and select one of the available retention periods: 3, 18, or 36 months. This setting controls future retention; it is separate from deleting existing history.

Delete Google Maps Timeline on iPhone
Google’s iPhone instructions require Google Maps version 6.93 or later. Menu labels can vary by app version or rollout, so use the equivalent Location settings item if the wording differs.
- Open Google Maps, tap your profile picture or initial, then tap Your Timeline.
- Tap More, then Settings or Location & privacy settings.
- Choose Delete all Timeline data to clear it all, or Delete Timeline Range to select dates.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. To delete a particular day, select it in Timeline and use the day’s More menu.
Clear Apple Significant Locations & Routes on iPhone
This Apple location record is separate from Google Maps Timeline and Apple Maps Visited Places.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security → Location Services → System Services.
- Tap Significant Locations & Routes, then Clear History.
Apple says this clears Significant Locations on devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Apple describes the data as end-to-end encrypted and unreadable by Apple. Menu wording may differ by software version.
Delete Apple Maps Visited Places on iPhone
Visited Places is a separate Apple Maps history, and Apple says the feature is unavailable in some countries or regions.

- Open Apple Maps and tap Places → Visited Places.
- To remove one place, open the More menu beside it and choose the removal option.
- To clear the list, scroll down and tap Clear History.
To manage how long future visits are kept, open Keep Visits and choose 3 months, 1 year, or Forever.

Google warns that deleted Timeline data cannot be recovered. Its help pages also caution that Timeline data or backups may remain on another device, and Google says changes made on one device may not appear on another. Check the relevant devices and backups rather than assuming one deletion has propagated everywhere.

Clearing Google Maps Timeline does not necessarily remove location-related information in Google Web & App Activity or Search services activity. Turning Timeline off also does not change Google Location Services, Location Sharing, or Find Hub. Review those settings separately if you want to manage those records or features.
Apple Significant Locations and Apple Maps Visited Places are distinct controls as well. Clearing either one should not be described as erasing all location history.
