To swap which mouse button Windows treats as primary, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse and change Primary mouse button to Right or Left. This is a built-in Windows 11 setting; you do not need extra software.
Change the primary mouse button in Windows 11
- Open Start and select Settings. You can also press Windows logo key + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Open the Primary mouse button menu and select Right or Left.
- Try clicking with the selected button. If it is not the behavior you want, return to the same menu and choose the other option.
Microsoft describes this as changing the primary mouse button, rather than using a separate left/right swap switch. See Microsoft’s mouse settings instructions and its accessibility guidance for input devices.
What the Left and Right options do

| Right | Makes the right mouse button the primary button. |
| Left | Makes the left mouse button the primary button. |
Choose the option that matches the button you want Windows to treat as primary. This changes a Windows setting; it does not require different mouse hardware, an adapter, or a remapping program.
If you cannot find the setting
Check that you are following the Windows 11 path: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse. The route differs in Windows 10, where Microsoft lists Settings > Devices > Mouse.

The documented setting controls the primary button in Windows. Individual applications may have their own mouse-button settings, so their behavior can depend on the application.
