In Firefox 150 or later, right-click a link and choose Open Link in Split View to open it beside the page you are viewing. To choose which page appears on the left or right, use Reverse Tabs in the Split View controls. Mozilla’s instructions do not specify which side the linked page occupies initially, so reverse the tabs if you need a particular page on a particular side.
Open a link beside the current page
Firefox 150 added the link context-menu command for opening a page in Split View. Mozilla’s release notes say the link opens “alongside your current tab.”
- Right-click the link you want to open.
- Select Open Link in Split View.
The linked page and the current page appear together in the Firefox window. This command is documented in Mozilla’s Firefox 150.0 release notes; Firefox 150 was first offered to Release channel users on April 21, 2026.
Choose which page appears on the left or right
After Split View opens, select Reverse Tabs to swap the pages between the left and right panes. You can access Split View controls from the Split View icon in the address bar, the three-dot control in the Split View footer, or the tab’s right-click context menu. The Firefox 150 release notes also mention Reverse Tabs in the tab context menu.

Mozilla’s published instructions do not establish which pane receives a page opened with Open Link in Split View. If the linked page must be on a specific side, open it first and then use Reverse Tabs as needed. The left-side behavior documented for creating Split View from a single tab applies to that separate method, not necessarily to opening a link.
Other ways to create a Split View
Firefox’s Split View feature puts two tabs side by side in one desktop window. It debuted in Firefox 149, first offered to Release channel users on March 24, 2026. Choose a setup method based on whether you already have the second page open or want to choose it afterward.

Choose the second page and adjust the layout
When you create a Split View from one tab, focus the right pane and either choose a tab from its list or type a web address. Drag the vertical divider to resize the two panes.

- A Split View can contain two tabs; pinned tabs cannot be added.
- Find in Page searches only the active pane.
- Split Views return with a window when Open previous windows and tabs is enabled, and they also return when you reopen a recently closed window.
- Reopening a closed tab with Ctrl+Shift+T (Command+Shift+T on macOS) does not restore the Split View.
