Adjust graphics in small, reversible steps, and install only addon files explicitly labeled for Forever: the beta’s controls, addon compatibility, and graphics options can change between builds.
1. Check your graphics hardware before changing settings
Blizzard’s September 17, 2024 announcement says WoW Forever requires an AMD GPU based on Graphics Core Next 1 or newer, NVIDIA Maxwell or newer, or Intel Skylake or newer. Blizzard gives Radeon HD 7850, GeForce GTX 9xx and 750/750 Ti, and Intel HD Graphics 530 as examples of cards with compatible architectures, but explicitly says those examples are still below the game’s minimum requirements. Architecture compatibility is a floor, not a performance recommendation. See Blizzard’s Forever graphics requirements announcement and compare your exact card against the current official requirements before buying hardware or troubleshooting further.
In Windows, identify the GPU in Settings > System > Display > Advanced display or open Device Manager > Display adapters. Laptop systems may list more than one graphics adapter; confirm which GPU the game uses before drawing conclusions from the model name.
- AMD: Graphics Core Next 1 dates to 2012.
- NVIDIA: Maxwell dates to 2014.
- Intel: Skylake dates to 2015.
These years describe the architectures’ introductions, not a benchmark or a guarantee that a specific card will run the beta smoothly.

2. Choose keyboard and mouse or the built-in gamepad path
Keyboard-and-mouse play remains an option, and Forever has announced built-in gamepad support. The pre-release reference checked September 15, 2026 does not establish a final default button layout, complete supported-controller list, or settled targeting and cursor behavior. You do not need a controller addon just to try the native path, but test the controls in your current build rather than assuming a particular mapping or universal device compatibility. If you prefer a physical controller, an Xbox-compatible controller is a generic option to consider; no individual model is verified here. Compare comfort and how cursor movement and targeting work in the current client before settling on a setup.

Optional controller customization
The third-party Easy Controller – Forever listing describes extra mappings for the Forever gamepad UI, including free controls and controller paddles. Its listing gives RB + D-pad down or /ec config to open configuration. Follow the project’s current instructions: the listing’s beta path is World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns/, and it says to fully restart the game after installing or updating because /reload will not load new addon files. That path and behavior are addon-specific and can change with the client.
3. Tune graphics for your screen and performance needs
There is no established best slider setting for every GPU, resolution, or frame-rate goal. Begin with the game’s own graphics options. Change only a few settings at a time, then compare image quality and smoothness in the areas where you actually play. If performance worsens, undo the most recent changes rather than applying a preset on the assumption that it is right for every machine.

Optional: use a graphics-control addon
Forever Graphics Panel, whose listing showed an October 1, 2026 update, provides controls for camera zoom, vegetation density, fog, bloom, weather, shadows, global illumination, HDR, and presets. Its named Performance preset reduces several demanding settings; Forever Ultra raises selected visual settings. The listing does not provide independent benchmark results, so treat those as starting points to compare on your own hardware, not measured performance promises.
The addon tracks original values for the settings it changes and offers an ORIGINAL control or /fgp reset to restore them. Its author warns that Blizzard may modify, clamp, disable, or remove graphics CVars between beta builds, which can make controls stop working. HDR results also depend on the display, GPU, and Windows HDR configuration.

4. Install Forever-compatible addons cautiously
Use an addon’s Forever-specific release, not a file intended for another WoW client version. The independent WoW Forever Outpost addon hub displayed compatibility checks dated September 26–29, 2026 and warns that addon files can change with beta builds. Use the hub as a practical starting point, then check the addon developer’s current project files for the latest compatibility information.
- On the download page, confirm the selected file is labeled for Forever.
- Extract the archive and copy every addon folder it contains into the client’s
Interface/AddOnsfolder. The exact installation location can vary by client layout; use the path specified for that addon and build. - Launch the game with addons disabled, then enable the new addon in the character-selection addon list.
- Enable addons one at a time and check that each works before adding the next. If a problem appears, disable the last addon you enabled.
The hub notes that the base interface replaces some functions addons may otherwise provide. Check whether Forever already has the feature you want before adding another tool, and consider the addon’s purpose, Forever-file availability, update recency, and setup complexity.
5. Protect settings while experimenting
Make a backup before changing addon or graphics settings extensively. A September 21, 2026 Blizzard forum post reproduces a settings-recovery procedure attributed to Sanya, and one forum user said it worked for them; that discussion does not establish a universal or current fix. For settings that disappear, consult the current forum discussion and official support rather than assuming a beta workaround applies to your installation.
