First, find out whether the broker is still processing your request, has rejected it, or has actually sent the payment. Those are different stages—and each points to a different next step. Check the broker’s withdrawal status and withdrawable balance, verify the destination account, then ask support for the specific reason and any transfer reference. Processing times and complaint routes depend on the broker, payment method, account type, and your jurisdiction.

Start by identifying the withdrawal’s status

Save the withdrawal ID, requested amount and currency, submission date and time, status history, broker messages, and current cash or ledger balance. Then establish what the status means in the broker’s system: submitted for review, approved internally, sent to a payment processor, or transmitted to the receiving bank. “Approved” does not necessarily mean the bank has received the money.

  • Pending: Check the broker’s schedule and cut-off times, account verification, and whether the funds are available to withdraw.
  • Rejected or partially paid: Find the precise rejection reason, confirm what amount was actually paid, and ask whether the remainder has returned to your brokerage account.
  • Sent or approved, but not credited: Ask for the payment reference or trace details, then ask the receiving bank to search using that reference and payment type.

Do not share passwords, full account credentials, or one-time codes with anyone claiming to trace a payment.

Why a withdrawal may be pending

Processing days and cut-off times

Check the schedule for your broker and withdrawal method. For example, IG’s help page says its bank withdrawals are processed on working days; requests made after a cut-off, on weekends, or on public holidays may move to the next working day. That is IG-specific guidance, not a universal withdrawal deadline.

Verification or account review

A broker may hold a withdrawal while it verifies the linked bank account or reviews documents. Check secure broker messages and the withdrawal page for a request to confirm details or submit updated documents. IG identifies an unverified linked bank account as one possible reason for a pending withdrawal. Use the broker’s secure portal to provide documents.

Funds may not be withdrawable yet

Compare the request with the account’s stated withdrawable cash, not simply buying power or the total displayed balance. Pending settlement, margin requirements, fees, or open transactions can reduce what is available. For the trades covered in its guidance, Zerodha describes T+1 settlement and says same-day deposits can prevent withdrawal; settlement timing varies by market and product. Its withdrawal guidance also says a request larger than the available withdrawable amount may be paid only up to that available amount.

What to check after a rejection or partial payment

  • Destination details: Compare the registered account name and bank details with the receiving account. A mismatched name, incorrect bank identifier, incomplete details, or a decline by the beneficiary bank can prevent payment.
  • Available balance: Check whether the requested amount exceeded the broker’s withdrawable balance. Ask which amount, if any, was sent.
  • Returned funds: Ask whether the rejected amount has been credited back to your brokerage account, and when. Axi says rejected funds are returned to the trading account in the cases described in its withdrawal guidance.
  • Closed or changed payment account: If the original card or bank account is closed, expired, or unable to receive the payment, ask the broker for its documented verification procedure before requesting another destination. Do not assume the broker can send funds to any third-party account. IG UK describes additional checks for changed or expired cards and receiving accounts in its withdrawal guidance.

Ask the broker for the exact rejection reason and what, if anything, you need to correct. Do not submit repeated requests to different accounts until you understand whether the original payment is still in progress or has been returned.

If the broker says the payment was sent

Ask the broker for the date and amount sent, currency, payment method, beneficiary details used, and the transfer reference or trace information. Ask whether “sent” means approved internally, handed to a payment processor, or transmitted to the bank. Give the reference to the receiving bank and ask it to search for the incoming payment using the matching payment type and details. Keep both the broker’s and bank’s case numbers.

Axi asks customers contacting support about a withdrawal to provide their Withdrawal ID. Have that or your broker’s equivalent ready, along with the relevant account statement and bank statement.

A practical sequence for resolving the issue

  1. Record the facts. Save the withdrawal ID, amount and currency, submission time, status history, relevant messages, and current account ledger or cash balance.
  2. Check eligibility. Compare the requested amount with displayed withdrawable cash and any settlement, margin, fee, or open-transaction obligations. Buying power is not necessarily withdrawable cash.
  3. Verify the destination. Confirm the receiving account is in the required name, its routing details are correct for the country and currency, and any requested verification is complete.
  4. Contact support with a precise request. Ask: “What is the current processing stage? What specifically caused the delay or rejection? What action or document is required from me? If payment was sent, what is its reference, and when should I expect the next update?” Keep the ticket number and response.
  5. Make a formal complaint if support does not resolve it. Write to the broker’s complaints address or follow its stated complaint process. Give a concise chronology, explain the outcome you want—payment, return of funds, a corrected transfer, or a reasoned decision—and attach relevant records. Keep proof of submission. The UK FCA advises consumers to tell a firm what happened and when, ask it to put things right, and keep a record.
  6. Escalate through the appropriate local route. Identify the legal entity that holds your account, then check the regulator, exchange, ombudsman, or dispute body’s official rules, eligibility, and filing deadlines. A route may cover broker conduct, payment execution, or both; do not assume every body can order the remedy you want.
  7. Use a separate process if there are signs of default or insolvency. If the broker is unreachable, accounts are frozen across customers, or a regulator announces a default, preserve your records and promptly check the regulator’s or exchange’s official claims process. An ordinary delayed transfer is not automatically a broker default.

Complaint timelines are not withdrawal deadlines

The following are complaint-process examples, not promises about how long a broker withdrawal should take:
