For a smoother, sharper Resident Evil Requiem on PC, set a realistic frame-rate target first, then adjust upscaling and individual graphics settings against that target. Start with ray tracing and path tracing off; enable them only if your GPU can maintain the performance you want. There is no single best preset for every PC: resolution, graphics card, VRAM, and tolerance for image reconstruction or input delay all matter.

Check what your PC is expected to handle

The Steam listing specifies these graphics-card tiers:

Requirement tier Graphics card Official target summarized by Selects
Minimum GeForce GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB Upscaled 1080p at 30 FPS, from 640p internal resolution
Recommended GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB or Radeon RX 6600 8GB Upscaled 1080p at 60 FPS, from 720p internal resolution

Selects’ summary says both configurations use 16 GB of RAM. These are target configurations, not guarantees for every scene, and “upscaled 1080p” does not mean the game is rendered internally at native 1080p.

Capcom’s support FAQ, updated July 22, 2026, warns that normal operation is not guaranteed on onboard graphics or devices that share graphics and system memory. It also cautions that mobile GPUs can perform substantially worse than desktop GPUs even when their tier labels appear to match. Treat the listed cards as reference points, not assurances about performance on a laptop or every system.

#1 Best Overall
Resident Evil™ Requiem - [PC Code in Box]
  • Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth title in the Resident Evil main series. Prepare to escape death in this breathtaking experience that will shake you to the core.
  • A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancement combined with the vast experience of the development team in combining stories with finely crafted characters and gameplay ensure a more immersive experience than ever before.
  • Experience the classic survival horror of the series through combat, investigation, puzzles, and resource management. The gameplay allows you to freely switch between first-person and third-person perspectives and experience the horror from the angle that best suits your playing style.
  • It all begins when a corpse--the victim of an unknown disease--is found in an abandoned hotel. Grace Ashcroft, crime analyst at the FBI, is commissioned with the investigation. But the location of the corpse is exactly the place where her mother died eight years ago.
  • Nervous of being confronted with her past, Grace sets out for the hotel. As it turns out, the case is linked to the truth behind the misfortune of Raccoon City, the biological catastophile that once shocked the world. Is this chapter finally drawn a final line?

Choose a resolution and frame-rate target

Decide what you want the game to deliver on your display—for example, 1080p at 60 FPS or 1440p at 60 FPS—before changing settings. A higher output resolution or refresh target asks more of the GPU, and the result can vary from scene to scene. Judge performance in the resolution you actually play at rather than relying on a GPU model name or a preset intended for another system.

Prioritize a frame rate and frame pacing you find comfortable. If the game cannot sustain that target, first use an upscaler to render at a lower internal resolution. Only lower other quality settings when you still need more headroom.

Build a stable baseline before adding advanced effects

  1. Turn off path tracing and standard ray tracing. Start with conventional rendering so you can see how the game performs without the most demanding lighting options.
  2. Choose a reasonable graphics preset. Use it as a starting point, not a promise that the same preset suits every GPU or resolution.
  3. Try DLSS or FSR upscaling if available for your system. Begin with a quality-focused mode. If performance remains short, try a more aggressive mode and check for softness, shimmer, or reconstruction artifacts.
  4. Adjust one setting at a time. Revisit a comparable scene after each change and check both smoothness and image quality. This makes it easier to identify which setting helped or hurt.

Requiem settings coverage reports DLSS and FSR options. An upscaler can help maintain performance when native rendering falls short; if the image looks too soft, try a higher-quality upscaling mode or native rendering if your GPU has enough headroom.

Which individual graphics settings should you change?

PCGamesN’s settings guide, updated March 2, 2026, offers a starting profile: motion blur off; texture quality Normal; texture filtering High (anisotropic x4); TAA; standard mesh quality; screen-space reflections on; low subsurface scattering; normal volumetric fog, shadows, and ambient occlusion; and contact shadows off. The guide says it tuned those suggestions on a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and GeForce RTX 5090. They are therefore a powerful-PC baseline, not a guaranteed optimal configuration for a lower-end machine.

  • If performance is low: Lower internal resolution through the upscaler before reducing every visual setting. If that is not enough, reduce demanding effects individually and compare in the same kind of scene.
  • If the picture is too soft: Move to a higher-quality upscaling mode or test native rendering, provided performance remains acceptable.
  • For textures: Choose a quality level that fits your available VRAM. There is no single texture setting established as right for every graphics card.
  • For personal preference: Motion blur, reflections, fog, shadows, and ambient occlusion involve visual trade-offs; keep the effects you value when performance allows.

Ray tracing and path tracing: image quality versus performance

Ray tracing can improve some lighting, shadow, and reflection details, but it costs performance. Path tracing is more demanding still. In PC Gamer’s February 27, 2026 comparison on an RTX 5090 test setup, the reviewer reported 157 FPS with High ray tracing and 77 FPS with path tracing. Those are results from that specific test, not a prediction for other GPUs or scenes. The review describes path tracing as visually striking but expensive.

NVIDIA’s February 26, 2026 launch announcement says the PC version supports path tracing, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, and Reflex. These are NVIDIA’s feature statements; whether a particular option is available depends on the hardware and game settings on your PC. Begin with both ray tracing and path tracing off, then test standard ray tracing before considering path tracing.

Frame generation: smoother motion is not the same as a faster response

Frame generation can make motion appear smoother, but it does not replace a sufficiently strong underlying frame rate. PC Gamer reports latency or consistency trade-offs in some tested configurations and notes that frame generation needs a decent baseline. If input delay bothers you, a lower but more consistent rendered frame rate may feel better than generated frames on top of weak baseline performance.

NVIDIA says, “All GeForce RTX gamers also benefit from NVIDIA Reflex when playing Resident Evil Requiem.” This is a vendor statement, not an independent measurement of latency on every PC.

  • Input latency when frame generation is enabled
  • GPU and VRAM use

For results you intend to share, note the GPU, driver, game version, output resolution, upscaler and mode, ray-tracing mode, and frame-generation setting. A change that helps one system or scene may not help another.

When should you consider a hardware upgrade?

Check your current GPU, the resolution you play at, your desired frame rate, and your budget before buying a graphics card. Compare your system with the Steam minimum and recommended tiers, but do not assume that meeting a listed tier guarantees your preferred settings or performance. Capcom’s warning about mobile GPUs also means a laptop card should not be judged by its tier name alone.

A GPU upgrade is not a universal fix for stutter: CPU limits, drivers, and frame-time spikes can also affect the experience. For someone without a capable local PC, NVIDIA says Requiem can be streamed through GeForce NOW Ultimate to connected devices; availability and terms depend on the market.
