A price tracker can show a different number from the retailer page without either one being fabricated: they may refer to different sellers, item conditions, price types, or shipping costs. To compare them, match the exact product and offer, check the tracker’s chart legend and dates, and verify the delivered total in the cart or checkout.
Why does my price tracker show the wrong price?
On Amazon, one product page can have several offers, and a tracker may chart a different offer from the one Amazon currently features. CamelCamelCamel separates Amazon, third-party new, and third-party used prices. It also describes its Buy Box price as an estimate: Amazon does not disclose which offer it features, so CamelCamelCamel infers the price and says the estimate can be wrong. Those distinctions matter: a low used offer is not the price of a new item sold by Amazon, and an item-price chart is not necessarily the amount you will pay after delivery charges. For Amazon offers, use the full offer list to check the seller and condition rather than assuming the prominent product-page price represents every seller. Different offers, sellers, or conditions
Before comparing prices, confirm the exact model, size, color, or other selected variation. Then compare the same condition—new or used—and the same offer source, such as Amazon or a marketplace seller. A tracker’s selected category may not match the offer shown most prominently on the product page.

Shipping and delivery eligibility
A tracker’s item price may omit shipping. CamelCamelCamel explicitly excludes shipping and handling from its tracked price. Shipping charges and eligibility can depend on the offer, destination, and account, so compare the delivery terms for your location and check the amount shown at checkout.
Different definitions of “price history”
Amazon’s product-page history graph and a third-party tracker need not measure the same thing. Amazon says its graph shows the lowest Featured Offer price each day. Its separate “Typical Price” uses a defined 90-day median of non-promotional prices customers paid, subject to calculation rules. Neither figure is automatically the current checkout total or the same series as a tracker’s Amazon, third-party new, or third-party used line. Amazon says prices change continually, while trackers collect their own histories and present them under their own definitions. A historical low therefore describes a recorded price in a particular series and period; it does not establish that the same offer is available to you now. Amazon’s offer guidance and Keepa’s API documentation describe offer and price-history data, but the cited material does not establish a universal error rate for trackers.
How to check a price mismatch
- Confirm the exact item. On the retailer page, check the selected variation and whether the offer is new or used.
- Identify the seller and offer. On Amazon, open the full offer list and compare the seller, condition, and item price with the tracker’s selected price category.
- Compare the delivered total. Check shipping and delivery eligibility for your destination, then verify the final amount in the cart or checkout. CamelCamelCamel’s tracked price excludes shipping and handling.
- Check the tracker series. Confirm whether the chart shows Amazon, third-party new, or third-party used offers. CamelCamelCamel says its simple watch form may hide price-watch types that have been out of stock for more than 90 days; logged-in users can use detailed mode to see all types. - Match the date range. Compare equivalent dates and chart intervals, not a current offer against a historical low from a different window.
- Review or reset the alert. If the tracker is watching the wrong offer category, adjust it to the intended one and set a realistic target. Treat an alert as a prompt to check the live offer—not confirmation of current stock or your final purchase price.
What Amazon’s history chart does—and does not—tell you
Amazon’s announced price-history feature offers 30-, 90-, and 365-day views where available. Amazon stated that the feature was available in the U.S., UK, Canada, and India when it announced the feature; 365-day insights were rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India at that time. Amazon Staff reported that more than 50 million customers had checked price history since its launch in 2024. That is an Amazon-reported usage figure, not an independent accuracy or savings measure. Amazon’s announcement also explains that the graph follows the lowest Featured Offer price each day, which is a different measure from a shopper’s final total.
A quick framework for comparing two prices
- Offer source: retailer-sold or third-party seller.
- Condition and variation: new or used, and the exact model or option.
- Price scope: item price alone or shipping-inclusive checkout total.
- Data concept: daily Featured Offer, tracker category, list price, or Typical/Was reference price.
- Time and market: chart dates, retailer storefront, delivery destination, membership, and offer eligibility.
If those dimensions match and the numbers still differ, the sources may have captured different offers or updated at different times. The available documentation does not establish a single update cadence or pricing methodology for every tracker, so check the live retailer offer before relying on a historical chart or alert.
