Keep heat and prolonged direct sunlight away from Kydex. Leather, synthetic materials, finishes, and hardware can require different care, so use the instructions for your exact holster. Clean and lubricate the Glock 48 separately according to its owner’s manual.
Clean the holster safely, one step at a time
- Unload and separate the firearm from the cleaning area. Remove the Glock 48 from the holster and follow safe firearm-handling practice. Do not bring a loaded firearm into the cleaning workflow.
- Remove loose debris. Check the inside of the holster for lint, dust, and grit. Wipe it with a soft, clean cloth; debris inside can abrade the firearm’s finish. Galco specifically recommends wiping out the interior, particularly after dusty use (Galco care instructions).
- Wash according to the holster maker’s directions. For Kydex, SWI specifies warm water and mild detergent, while C&G recommends a damp cloth and cool, soapy water for its Glock 48/MOS IWB Kydex product. These are product-specific examples, not interchangeable instructions for every holster (SWI instructions; C&G product care). Wipe or rinse away residue as directed by the maker.
- Dry it fully without heat. Use a clean cloth for moisture and allow the holster to air-dry completely. Dry metal hardware carefully to help prevent corrosion. Do not use a hair dryer, oven, radiator, hot dashboard, or other artificial heat source. Heat and prolonged direct sunlight can deform Kydex; Galco also cautions against excessive heat and sunlight for its products (SWI instructions; Galco care instructions).
- Check the holster before returning it to use. Once dry, look for visible cracks or warping and confirm that retention and mounting hardware appear secure. If something has shifted or loosened, use the holster maker’s model-specific adjustment guidance; there is no universal torque value established for all Glock 48 IWB holsters.
Adjust care to the holster’s material and construction
Kydex
Mild soap and water are suitable only where the holster’s maker permits them. Avoid solvents and corrosive chemicals unless the maker explicitly approves them. SWI’s care instructions call for mild detergent and complete drying; C&G’s G48/MOS page gives its own cool, soapy-water method. Follow the directions for the exact product rather than combining or generalizing instructions (SWI instructions; C&G product care).
Leather and synthetic holsters
Materials and finishes differ, so do not assume that a cleaning method safe for one holster is safe for another. Galco’s document advises soft- or damp-cloth cleaning, avoiding solvents and corrosive chemicals, and not machine-washing its synthetic or leather products. Those cautions describe Galco products, not every brand (Galco care instructions). The available maker guidance does not establish a universal leather-conditioning recipe. Use oils, conditioners, saddle soap, or soaking only if the specific holster maker recommends them.
Screws, clips, and other hardware
Dry metal parts carefully and inspect mounting and retention hardware after cleaning. Screw adjustment, thread-locker use, and tightening values vary by product; follow the holster maker’s directions rather than applying a generic setting.

How often should you clean the holster?
The care instructions cited here do not set a universal calendar schedule for holster cleaning. Inspect and wipe the interior when you notice lint or grit, and pay particular attention after dusty or sweaty carry. If the holster needs a deeper wash, use the maker’s material-specific method and dry it fully before use.
Clean the Glock 48 separately
Holster care is not firearm maintenance. GLOCK says to clean and lubricate its pistols before first firing, after each time fired, at least monthly if unused, and after exposure to rain, snow, perspiration, salt water, dirt, or dust. Those are GLOCK’s directions for the pistol, not a holster-cleaning schedule. Lubricant locations and amounts are model-specific: “Check the owner’s manual for your GLOCK model for where to apply lubricant and how much to apply.” See GLOCK’s Caring for Your GLOCK guidance and its downloadable manuals and maintenance materials, which list an owner’s manual for models G17–G48.

Do not put firearm lubricant or the products used on the pistol onto the holster unless its maker says they are suitable.

Visible cracks, warping, or hardware that will not remain secure are reasons to stop relying on the holster until the maker advises whether it can be repaired or should be replaced. If choosing a replacement, verify that its listing names the Glock 48 and matches the exact configuration, including whether it is intended for the G48 MOS. GLOCK lists a slim Sport/Combat holster for the G43, G43X, and G48, but it is not described as an IWB equivalent; check the official Sport/Combat holster listing against your carry needs.
