To stop Gemini from accessing Gmail and Drive on a personal Google account, turn off Google Workspace in Gemini’s Connected Apps settings. If you also want to remove information Gemini has already surfaced, delete the relevant chats or activity separately; disconnecting the app does not erase them.
Turn off Gemini’s Google Workspace connection
Gmail and Google Drive access is handled through the Google Workspace connection. Google says Gemini will not access personal information or content in these connected services without permission. This setting stops access through that connection; it does not turn off every Gemini feature or data flow.
- Open Gemini. Sign in to the Gemini app or visit gemini.google.com.
- Open Connected Apps. On the web, select Settings & help, then Connected Apps. In the mobile app, open the menu, tap your profile picture or initial, then tap Connected Apps. On some eligible interfaces, open Personal Intelligence first.
- Disconnect Google Workspace. Find Google Workspace, switch it off, and confirm any prompt shown.
Google notes that available apps and labels can vary by Gemini app, device, country, and other factors. If the steps or setting name differ in your account, use the Connected Apps area in the current Gemini interface.
Remove information Gemini has already seen
Disconnecting Google Workspace stops future access through that connection, but it does not delete Gemini Apps Activity or old chat content. Google’s help page states: “Disconnecting an app or deleting data in a connected app doesn’t delete any data from Gemini Apps Activity.” Deleting or updating an item in a connected service, such as an email, may also take days to affect the Gemini experience.

If you want to remove information already surfaced to Gemini, delete every relevant chat from Gemini Apps Activity or Recent chats, then disconnect Google Workspace to prevent Gemini from using it again. Deleting only the source email or file, or disconnecting only the app, may leave the information available through the other path.
What Keep Activity changes
Keep Activity is a separate control for Gemini Apps Activity. For personal accounts, you can review or delete activity and turn the setting off in My Activity. Turning it off does not delete existing activity or data in other Google services.

Google says that with Keep Activity on, Gemini Apps activity—including data from connected apps—may be used to improve Google services, including training generative AI models. Google says it does not train models directly on Gmail inboxes or Drive files; instead, summaries, excerpts, generated media, and inferences from relevant emails and files may be used. For short or especially relevant content, the summary may be the email or file itself. Google also describes human review of a subset of processed connected-app data.
With Keep Activity off, future chats do not appear in Activity and are not used to train Google’s AI models unless you submit feedback. Google says those chats are still saved for 72 hours to let Gemini respond, process feedback, and protect Google, its users, and the public.

Google states that Workspace Connected Apps are unavailable while Keep Activity is off. Turning Keep Activity back on restores access to apps that were previously connected. If you later re-enable it and still want to block Gmail or Drive access, check that Google Workspace remains switched off in Connected Apps.

For managed accounts, Google says that if app access is disabled after a chat has already used an app, the chat remains viewable and can continue using information needed for the original prompt. Gemini cannot obtain additional information from that app unless access is enabled again.
