Choose an AION 2 class by the combat job you want and the activities you expect to play most—not by a universal “best class” list. NCSOFT’s class descriptions and activity categories are useful starting points, but they do not establish a current class ranking or complete skill, stat, equipment, or Stigma builds. For build choices, check the tooltips in your regional client and account for the March 2026 class rebalance.
How do I choose an AION 2 class for solo or group play?
Start with these questions, in order:
- What do you want to do in combat? Choose among tanking, healing, support, frontline or melee damage, ranged pressure, and magic damage or control.
- Where will you play most? Decide whether solo activities, party content, or competitive PvP will make up most of your time.
- What positioning do you prefer? Consider whether you want to commit to melee range or play at range. The sources here do not establish class difficulty, so do not treat range alone as a difficulty rating.
- What responsibility do you want in a group? A tank, healer, buffer, controller, and damage dealer contribute in different ways. Choose the role you are willing to perform, not just the one that sounds strongest.
An independent guide recommends weighing role responsibility and intended activity before consulting tier lists; it also argues that a useful ranking should identify its patch, activity, role, and sample conditions. Those are sensible checks, not official NCSOFT rules (independent class-selection guide, 11 August 2026).
What are the eight AION 2 classes?
NCSOFT’s 4 June 2025 overview described these broad class identities. They are role descriptions, not a current balance ranking or a guarantee that a class is optimal for a particular activity.
| Class | Announced identity | Selection cue |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Powerful, wide-area skill attacks | Consider if you want melee damage with attacks described as covering an area. |
| Templar | Core tanking role | Consider if you want to take the tanking responsibility in a group. |
| Assassin | Precision-based melee specialist | Consider if precise melee combat appeals to you. |
| Marksman / Ranger | Long-range scout class in the 2025 overview; called Ranger in the March 2026 balance notice | Consider if you prefer ranged play, and check the name used in your regional client. |
| Sorcerer | High burst magic damage | Consider if you want a magic-damage role focused on burst. |
| Spiritmaster | Optimized for solo play | Consider if solo activity is a priority, while remembering the description is not a comparative performance result. |
| Cleric | Improved damage capabilities, as described in the overview | Consider it if the announced damage capability interests you; the description alone does not specify a complete role or build. |
| Chanter | Versatile support role with multiplayer utility | Consider if you want to support a group. |
The class identities come from NCSOFT’s 4 June 2025 overview. The naming difference matters: that overview says Marksman, while NCSOFT’s 25 March 2026 balance notice says Ranger. An independent guide published 11 August 2026 lists Ranger among the global roster and recommends Ranger or Assassin for solo self-sufficiency, Templar or Cleric for party roles, and Chanter for group support. Treat those as that guide’s qualitative recommendations, not official rankings; it also notes global PvP balance may differ from Korea and Taiwan (independent guide).

Which activities should influence your choice?
NCSOFT’s 12 August 2025 content overview distinguishes several activity types. Use your expected play pattern as a filter, not as proof that a class is required or strongest in a mode.
| Play pattern | Activities named by NCSOFT | What to ask yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Nightmare Dungeon, Seal Dungeon, Garrison, Awakening Battle | Will you spend enough time alone that solo comfort matters more than a group role? |
| Party-based | Expedition, Transcendence, Eradication, Sanctuary | Do you want to take on tanking, healing, support, control, or damage responsibilities? |
| Competitive PvP | Arena, Battlefield, Rift, Abyss | Are you choosing for PvP specifically, and have you checked advice for your region and current patch? |
| Casual | Daily Dungeon, Shugo Festa | Do these activities represent most of your play, or are they secondary to solo or group content? |
These categories and examples are from NCSOFT’s 12 August 2025 content overview. The activity list does not establish class-specific requirements or performance.

Which class should I choose for my preferred role?
- For tanking: Templar is the class NCSOFT explicitly identifies as the core tank.
- For group support: Chanter is described as a versatile support class with multiplayer utility.
- For a solo-oriented starting point: Spiritmaster is explicitly described as optimized for solo play. The independent guide also recommends Ranger or Assassin for solo self-sufficiency, but that advice is qualitative and should be checked against your region and patch.
- For precision melee: Assassin is described as a precision-based specialist; choose it if that combat identity fits your preference rather than assuming it leads a ranking.
- For wide-area melee attacks: Gladiator’s official overview emphasizes powerful, wide-area skills.
- For ranged play: The class appears as Marksman in the 2025 overview and Ranger in the 2026 notice. Verify the current client name, then compare its live skills with your preferred positioning.
- For burst magic damage: Sorcerer is the class NCSOFT describes in those terms.
- For Cleric: The 2025 overview notes improved damage capabilities, but it does not by itself provide a full role recommendation or show how Cleric compares with other classes now.
What should I build on my class?
Do not treat a build as timeless. On 25 March 2026, NCSOFT announced a comprehensive class rebalance, new Stigma skills for all classes, and an increase in the maximum number of Stigma slots to five. The notice also says PvP and PvE damage calculations were separated. Those changes make activity and version important when evaluating build advice.
The same notice names these new Stigma skills:
- Gladiator: Fracturing Rush
- Templar: Battlefield Banner
- Chanter: Barrier Spell
- Cleric: Reincarnating Touch
- Elementalist: Command: Proxy
- Sorcerer: Hibernation
- Assassin: Shadowstep
- Ranger: Supporting Fire
Because the notice uses Elementalist while the roster overview names Spiritmaster, do not assume the listed skill label maps neatly to a class name in every regional client; verify the class and skill labels in-game. The announcement does not provide a complete recommended skill order, stat priority, equipment setup, or Stigma allocation for each class. Check your current regional client’s tooltips before following a build, and ensure any outside recommendation specifies whether it is for PvE or PvP and which patch it covers (NCSOFT, 25 March 2026).

Why there is no reliable universal “best class” answer
The official material cited here gives class identities and activity categories, but no comparable class win rates, damage-per-second figures, or solo-clear results. It therefore cannot substantiate a numerical class ranking or claims that one class is best across solo, group, and PvP content. Balance and class advice also need regional and patch context: the 2026 notice records a substantial rebalance, and the independent guide cautions that global PvP balance may differ from Korea and Taiwan.
Use official descriptions to narrow the role you want, then look for current advice that names your region, patch, activity, and role. If it does not, treat its tier placement or exact build as unverified for your situation.
