For a cleaner recipe copy, open Firefox’s print preview and choose Simplified under Format if it is available. Check the preview, then choose Save to PDF for a digital copy or select a printer for paper. Simplification can remove page clutter, but it may not remove every introduction or commentary section.
Use Firefox’s Simplified print format
- Open the recipe page in Firefox and choose Print from the browser menu.
- In the print preview, expand More settings. Under Format, select Simplified if Firefox offers it. Mozilla says this format strips away clutter such as buttons, ads, and background images. See Mozilla Support’s guide to simplified printing.
- Inspect the preview to make sure the recipe ingredients and instructions are still included and the unwanted sections are gone.
- Choose Save to PDF as the destination for a digital copy, or choose a printer for a paper copy.
Use the available print settings to adjust pages, orientation, scale, margins, paper size, color, and headers or footers. Firefox’s print help explains the print destinations and settings.
Try Reader View if Simplified is unavailable
Some eligible pages show a Reader View icon in Firefox’s address bar. Select it before opening Print to print the page in Reader View. The available content and appearance can differ from the normal page, so check the print preview before saving.
If the icon is absent, Firefox does not offer Reader View for that page. Try the Simplified format in print preview instead, if it is available.

What to do when commentary remains
Neither built-in option guarantees that every recipe introduction, personal note, or commentary section will disappear. Mozilla describes Simplified as removing page clutter; it does not promise selective removal of all site-specific text. If the preview still includes material you do not want, a page-editing extension is an optional next step.
- Mozilla’s print guide names the Print Edit WE extension for editing page content before printing.
- The Firefox Add-ons listing for PrintFriendly describes removing unwanted sections, editing text, and printing or saving as PDF.
These are third-party tools, and their availability and results may change. Review the edited page before printing or saving it.

Choose between Simplified and Reader View
| Option | When it is available | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Simplified print format | When Firefox offers Simplified under Format in print preview. | Confirm the recipe content remains and unwanted material is removed. If Reader View was activated before printing, the Format setting may not appear. |
| Reader View | When Firefox shows the Reader View icon for the page. | Review the print preview to see which content remains and whether the layout suits your copy. |
If the print preview does not look right
- No Format setting: Firefox says this can happen when a simplified version is unavailable or when Reader View was turned on before printing. If you want to try Simplified, return to the regular page and open Print again.
- Reader View icon missing: Reader View is limited to pages Firefox considers eligible. Use Simplified if offered.
- Pages break awkwardly or the layout changes: Web pages can render differently on paper than on screen. Adjust scale, orientation, margins, paper size, or page selection, then inspect the preview again.
- You only need a digital copy: Choose Save to PDF; you do not need paper or a printer.
