For more CPU and integrated-graphics headroom, consider a Beelink SER8; for memory and storage flexibility, consider the MINISFORUM UM780 XTX. These are configuration-based alternatives, not a ranked benchmark result: choose by the exact CPU, RAM, SSD, ports and local purchase terms on the listing you intend to buy.
What the GMKtec M8 offers for everyday computing
GMKtec lists the NucBox M8 with a six-core, 12-thread Ryzen 5 PRO 6650H, boost speeds up to 4.5GHz, integrated Radeon 660M graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory and a PCIe 3.0 M.2 2280 SSD in either 512GB or 1TB capacity. The manufacturer calls the memory a “Non-upgradable design,” so plan on keeping the supplied 16GB for the life of the machine. See GMKtec’s M8 specifications.
A TechRadar review published December 15, 2025 found its review unit handled office applications, web browsing and media playback well. The reviewer identified the integrated GPU as a limitation for more demanding 3D work and some heavier video editing. Those are findings from one reviewed M8, not a comparative test against the alternatives below. Read TechRadar’s M8 review.

Which one should you choose?
Choose the M8 for a fixed, modest office setup
The M8’s reviewed everyday-use results make it a reasonable choice for documents, conferencing, browser tabs and video playback if you do not need to expand memory. Decide whether 16GB will remain adequate for your workload; RAM is the one listed component the manufacturer explicitly says cannot be upgraded.
Choose a SER8 configuration when CPU and graphics headroom matter
The SER8’s documented Ryzen 7 and Radeon 780M configurations make it the higher-spec alternative on paper. First identify whether the machine is the 8745HS or 8845HS version, then check its actual RAM and SSD bundle. The official 8845HS page documents two PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots, but do not assume every listing has identical internals.

Choose the UM780 XTX when upgrade flexibility matters
MINISFORUM documents support for up to 96GB of dual-channel DDR5-5600 memory and two PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 slots. The company says its Cold Wave 2.1 cooling is intended to sustain peak performance at 70W with 43dB noise under full load; those are manufacturer-stated figures, not independent measurements. MINISFORUM’s support page lists UM780 XTX manuals, drivers, BIOS and an OCuLink adapter installation resource; the presence of support documents does not establish service quality.
Check these details before ordering
- Match the full configuration. Confirm CPU model, installed RAM, SSD capacity and operating system on the seller’s exact SKU page. For the SER8, distinguish the 8745HS from the 8845HS; for all three, confirm whether RAM and storage are included or whether a system is barebones.
- Verify the upgrade path. The M8’s official specification says its 16GB memory is non-upgradable. TechRadar describes two M.2 positions on its reviewed M8, while the SER8 8845HS page and UM780 XTX announcement document two M.2 slots. Check the current manual and hardware revision for slot access, supported drives and capacity before buying an SSD.
- Check the ports you will actually use. TechRadar describes USB4, OCuLink, video outputs and dual 2.5GbE ports on its M8 review unit. MINISFORUM lists an OCuLink adapter installation resource for the UM780 XTX. Confirm ports on the exact regional model, and whether any adapter or dock is included, before planning an external-GPU setup.
- Compare local ownership terms. Prices, inventory, sellers, returns and warranty terms vary by region and retailer. Verify them on the purchase page; the available specifications do not establish equivalent warranty or support terms across the three brands.
What performance figures do—and do not—tell you
TechRadar reported an 8.2 Windows Experience score and a 5662 PCMark score for its M8 review unit in 2025. These are review results for that machine, not scores directly comparable with the SER8 or UM780 XTX. Likewise, MINISFORUM’s 70W and 43dB figures describe the company’s stated UM780 XTX cooling target under full load, not an independently measured comparison. Use the configuration and upgrade differences above to narrow choices rather than treating these figures as a head-to-head ranking.
