A removable screen protector that cracks or peels can usually be replaced; cracked iPhone glass or a display separating from the frame is a phone repair issue. A new protector will not fix damage to the built-in screen.
Identify what is cracked or lifting
“Display cover” can mean either a separate screen protector fitted over the phone or the iPhone’s own glass and display assembly. Check the edges and surface without pressing on them: a protector is a separate accessory, while built-in damage affects the phone itself. If you cannot tell which layer is moving or cracked, have the phone inspected rather than trying to push it back into place.

If only the screen protector is damaged
Replace it with one listed for your exact iPhone model. Model fit matters because the camera and sensor openings must line up, and a case can interfere with a protector that extends too close to the phone’s edges. No particular brand or model has been verified here, so check the maker’s fit and case-compatibility information before buying.
Prepare and apply the replacement
- Follow the protector maker’s directions; installation kits and application methods differ.
- Unplug cables and turn off the iPhone. Apple recommends cleaning with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth, keeping moisture out of openings, and avoiding compressed air and unapproved cleaning products. Abrasive materials and some cleaners can scratch the glass or wear its oleophobic coating. See Apple’s Cleaning your iPhone guidance.
- If the old protector is cracked, remove it carefully according to its maker’s instructions. Avoid dragging broken edges across the screen. If the built-in glass underneath is cracked or the display is lifting, stop and arrange service instead.
- Clean and dry the bare display. General phone guidance from iFixit recommends checking for dust and fingerprints, lifting remaining specks with a dust-removal sticker, aligning the protector’s camera and sensor cutouts, and lowering it slowly.
- Press from the center and work air pockets toward the edges, if the protector’s instructions call for this. Do not force an edge that will not adhere; check alignment, dust, and case interference, or consult the manufacturer.
These application steps are general guidance, not a model-specific test. Apple’s cleaning advice applies to the iPhone surface; use the accessory maker’s directions for its protector and installation kit.

If the iPhone’s own glass is cracked
Apple’s safety guidance says: “Don’t use iPhone with cracked glass, as it may cause injury.” Do not treat a protector as a repair or continue handling a phone with cracked built-in glass as though only an accessory were damaged. Follow Apple’s safety and service guidance and arrange an inspection.
If the display is lifting away from the frame
Do not push the screen down, glue it, or open the phone based on a do-it-yourself fix. Asurion lists a swollen battery, hardware damage, or a poor previous repair as possible causes of a lifting iPhone screen; those are possibilities, not a diagnosis of your device. Professional inspection is especially important if you see other signs of battery or device damage. Apple’s guidance on genuine batteries also explains why battery-related service should be handled appropriately.

Choose a repair route for built-in display damage
Apple recommends that a trained technician replace an iPhone display using genuine Apple display parts. Depending on location and eligibility, service options may include Apple Stores, Apple Authorised Service Providers, Apple Repair Centres, Independent Repair Providers, and Self Service Repair. Availability varies by region and model.
Apple warns that non-genuine displays can affect touch response, brightness, color, and other features. Untrained repairs can also create safety or functional problems; Apple notes that incorrectly replaced screws or cowlings may leave parts loose that could damage the battery or cause overheating or injury. Ask the provider what parts and service options are available for your specific model and location.

Check coverage before arranging service
Do not assume a crack or lifting display is covered, or that a particular repair price applies. AppleCare+ terms vary by region and plan. The North America terms distinguish accidental-damage claims from defects and set conditions for screen-only damage, including that there must be no additional damage preventing a screen repair. Check the terms for your own plan and the service options available locally.
