Start by checking Settings > Storage. If the card is missing there, Android is not detecting it; power the tablet off, reseat the microSD card, and check again. If Settings lists it but your file manager does not, check whether it is configured as internal storage before blaming the card or slot. Confirm your exact tablet model’s card limits before formatting or replacing anything.

1. Check whether the tablet supports your card

Lenovo tablets do not all share the same microSD capacity limit or file-system support. Find the model name or number in Settings > About tablet or on the product label, then check that model’s Lenovo specifications or user guide. Confirm that it has a microSD slot, the maximum card capacity, and any listed file-system requirement.

For example, Lenovo’s Lenovo Tab specifications list microSD support up to 1TB for the specified family/configuration. The Idea Tab specifications list support up to 2TB with exFAT for the cited specification. These are examples, not universal limits for Lenovo tablets. A card larger than your model supports—or formatted in a file system it does not support—may not work as expected.

2. Check whether Android detects the card

Open Settings and look under Storage; menu wording can vary by model and Android version. Google recommends checking Settings to see whether the card is detected. If it is absent there, treat this as a system-level detection problem rather than just a file-manager display issue.

3. Power off and reseat the card

If Settings does not show the card, shut the tablet down before removing it. Lenovo’s FAQ guidance says to power off before inserting or removing an SD card. Follow your model’s manual for the tray or slot and card orientation: the precise layout varies. Do not force the card, and do not try to insert a full-size SD card into a microSD-only slot.

  1. Power the tablet off completely.
  2. Remove the card carefully, following the model manual.
  3. Check that it is seated in the correct orientation, then reinstall it without force.
  4. Turn the tablet on and check Settings > Storage again.

Google’s Files Help for an undetected SD card also recommends removing and reinserting the card when Settings does not detect it.

4. Work out whether the card or tablet is at fault

Cross-testing can help narrow down the cause. This is a practical isolation step, not a repair procedure established by Lenovo’s general Android-tablet guide.

  • Try the card in a known-compatible computer with a card reader or in another device. If it is not detected there either, the card may be faulty.
  • Try a different, known-compatible microSD card in the tablet. If that card works, the original card is the more likely problem.
  • If multiple compatible cards work elsewhere but none are detected by the tablet after careful reseating, the tablet’s slot or software may need diagnosis.

A card’s speed rating is not established as a fix for this detection symptom. Focus first on the card’s physical condition, model compatibility, and whether another device can read it.

5. If Settings sees the card but Files does not

When Android lists a card in Storage but it does not appear in Files by Google, check how the card was set up. A card configured as internal (adoptable) storage may not appear as a separate portable card in Files. Google explains this difference in its SD-card troubleshooting guidance.

Portable and internal storage have different purposes: portable cards are intended to move between devices, while internal/adoptable storage is tied to the tablet. Whether a Lenovo tablet offers both modes, or supports installing apps on a card, depends on the model and software. Do not reformat a card simply because it is not displayed as a portable drive.

6. Format only after protecting readable data

Formatting erases the card. Google’s official Get started with an SD card guidance warns: “If you format your SD card, data will be permanently deleted.” If the card is readable anywhere, copy off files you want to keep before considering a format.

Only consider formatting after checking the tablet’s supported capacity and file system and confirming that you have preserved any needed data. Use the tablet’s Storage controls if formatting is available there, and do not repeatedly format a card that contains the only copy of important files.

Check whether your device is compatible with the microSD capacity; for example, if the device only supports a maximum capacity of 64GB, it may not recognize this Micro SD Cards’ full capacity of 512GB.

7. When to contact Lenovo Support

If more than one known-compatible card works in other devices but remains undetected by your tablet after reseating, contact Lenovo Support for guidance specific to your model and region. Lenovo’s general Android-tablet troubleshooting guide does not establish a particular SD-slot repair procedure, repair cost, or warranty outcome, so ask Support to assess those details rather than assuming a reset or repair is required.
