For a quick, shareable chart, ask Claude Code to turn data it can access into a chart or dashboard artifact. If the chart needs to become part of a reusable application or repository, ask Claude Code to build it in the project’s existing stack instead. The right route depends on whether you need a standalone page or maintainable application code.

Make a chart or dashboard artifact

Artifacts are useful when you want to inspect and share a visual result without adding it to an application. Anthropic describes them as a way to present output that is easier to look at and interact with than to read as terminal text. Claude Code can build an artifact from work available in the session, including the codebase and data retrieved through connected tools. See Anthropic’s Claude Code artifact documentation.

  1. Identify the source. Tell Claude Code which file, table, metric, or result to use. If you are unsure what fields are available, ask it to inspect the data and suggest a suitable chart.
  2. Describe the question, not just the chart type. State what comparison or trend the graphic should make clear. Specify the measure, time range, categories, axis fields, units, and how missing values should be handled. Ask for controls only if viewers need to filter or explore the data.
  3. Ask directly for an artifact. For example, Anthropic’s documentation suggests: “Build a dashboard artifact of last week’s deploy failures by service and keep it updated as you investigate.”
  4. Check the rendered page. Confirm that the fields and units are right, labels and scales are readable, and the chart answers the stated question. Compare plotted values with the source data before sharing; a polished graphic is not proof that the underlying data was mapped correctly.
  5. Refine and republish. Request changes to grouping, labels, chart type, or breakdown. The artifact is updated at the same URL, and each publish creates a new version.

A prompt template

Use [data file or session result] as the source. Create a [line/bar/scatter/etc.] chart answering [specific question]. Map [field] to the x-axis and [field] to the y-axis; label units, show [groups/time range], and explain how missing values are handled. Make it a [shareable dashboard artifact / project file] and include a short note identifying the source data.

This is a starting point, not a guaranteed prompt recipe. When the right visualization is unclear, ask Claude Code to inspect the available columns and recommend a chart type before it builds one.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Build the chart into a project

Choose project-native code when the visualization needs to live in a repository or operate as part of an application—for example, when it depends on app routing, authentication, backend services, deployment controls, or existing components. Ask Claude Code to inspect the project’s framework, charting dependencies, and data flow first, then follow its conventions rather than assuming a particular framework is best.

Example request: “Inspect this project and identify the existing data source and visualization conventions. Add a chart of [metric] by [dimension] using the current stack, with labeled units, accessible colors, and a clear empty-data state. Tell me which files changed and how to view it.”

Anthropic’s data-science case study describes a team building reusable React dashboards for model performance and training data. It illustrates a project-native approach; it does not mean React is the right choice for every project.

Choose the route that fits the deliverable

Need Best fit Why
A one-off chart or investigation that is easy to share Artifact A self-contained browser page can be refined and republished as the investigation changes.
A reusable chart inside an application Project-native code It can use the app’s routing, authentication, backend, deployment setup, and established components.
Data computation plus a generated chart, without a maintained app Enabled API code-execution tool Anthropic’s API documentation describes Python running in a sandboxed container and returning charts, calculations, or analysis. This is an API route, not a promise that the tool is enabled in every Claude Code CLI session.

For a hosted tool that needs a backend or multiple routes, use your own infrastructure rather than treating an artifact as an application server. Anthropic describes an artifact as “one self-contained page with no backend, so it can’t serve multiple routes.”

Know the artifact limits before sharing

  • Access: Current Claude Code documentation lists artifacts for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise, and requires a signed-in /login session. Availability of specific capabilities can depend on version; check the current documentation if artifacts, live connector data, or comment handling are unavailable. Current artifact requirements
  • Page structure and size: An artifact is a single self-contained page built from HTML, CSS, and inline JavaScript, with a 16 MiB rendered-page limit. It has no backend and cannot serve multiple routes.
  • Scripts and external requests: The artifact viewer applies a content-security policy that restricts external requests and scripts. Do not assume an arbitrary external library or service call will work inside the page.
  • Sharing controls: New artifacts are private to their author. Organization and public sharing depend on plan and administrator settings; public sharing is disabled by default for Team and Enterprise organizations until an owner enables it. Review both the data and the sharing mode before sending a link.
  • Live connectors: Connector calls use the viewer’s own connected account and permissions. A teammate may see no live data if they lack the connector or do not grant access.
  • Downloads: Chart or table downloads in the artifact viewer work only through its declared downloads capability; ordinary download links or scripts do not work there.

Before sharing, make sure the chart contains only data appropriate for its audience and verify that the recipient’s access matches what the page needs.
