If PS VR2 Sense controllers will not pair with a Windows PC, pair them individually through Windows Bluetooth while each controller is in pairing mode. If they pair but disconnect or track unreliably in SteamVR, start with the Bluetooth adapter’s driver, placement, and interference. Headset camera or play-area tracking is a separate problem with different fixes.
Pair each PS VR2 Sense controller in Windows
First-time pairing is handled in Windows Bluetooth settings, not by SteamVR. Charge both controllers and disconnect their USB cables before starting. Sony’s PC adapter manual gives different button combinations for the left and right controller; pair them one at a time.
- On the left controller, hold the PS button and Create button until its status indicator blinks.
- On the right controller, hold the PS button and Options button until its status indicator blinks.
- In Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices, turn Bluetooth on, and select each controller to pair it separately.
If a controller stops blinking before Windows finishes pairing, repeat the button sequence for that controller. Follow Sony’s PC setup instructions and the PC adapter manual if the labels or steps differ on your setup.
If a controller will not pair or keeps disconnecting
Sony says the PS VR2 Sense controller needs faster and more stable Bluetooth communication than other Bluetooth devices. Work through these checks before replacing an adapter.

Check charge and pairing mode
- Confirm both controllers have charge, Windows Bluetooth is on, and the controller you are pairing is still blinking when you select it.
- Pair the controllers individually rather than trying to add both at once.
Improve an external Bluetooth adapter’s connection
- Install the latest driver supplied by the adapter’s manufacturer. Sony cautions that not all Bluetooth adapters work properly with PS VR2.
- If you use a USB Bluetooth adapter, connect it to a USB 2.0 port as far as possible from a USB 3.0 port. Sony suggests a USB 2.0 extension cable to move the Bluetooth adapter away from the PC and give it clear visibility; keep any external antenna unobstructed too.
- Temporarily turn off other Bluetooth devices, remove obstructions between the controllers and adapter, and switch off a paired PS5. If the PC uses Wi-Fi, Sony suggests using the 5 GHz band.
A USB 2.0 extension cable here is for positioning the Bluetooth dongle. It is not the same as extending the PS VR2 PC adapter connection.
Escalate to Windows driver cleanup
If the connection still fails, restart Windows and power-cycle the Bluetooth adapter. Then reinstall its current manufacturer-provided driver. Sony also advises removing the PS VR2 Sense controller driver and unused Bluetooth device drivers in Device Manager, including hidden devices, before restarting and installing the current Bluetooth driver. Which Bluetooth adapters has Sony tested?
Sony lists the following models as tested for compatibility on 2024-07-20. This is a dated list of tested examples, not a ranking or a guarantee that a model will work in every PC configuration. Sony says operation is not guaranteed.

Before buying, check the manufacturer’s specifications, current Windows driver availability, and whether the adapter can be positioned with clear antenna visibility and away from USB 3.0 ports. Sony provides no comparative performance results or recommendation order for these models. If you already have an external adapter, try its driver and placement first. Separate controller tracking from headset tracking
When the headset view or room tracking is unstable, rather than the hand controllers disconnecting, address the headset’s cameras and play area. Sony’s PC troubleshooting guidance recommends:
- Turn off the headset, close SteamVR, open PlayStation VR2 App, and delete the play-area data.
- Clean the headset tracking cameras with a soft, dry lens-cleaning cloth, and avoid direct sunlight.
- Use a well-lit room. When setting the play area, scan the full room, including the ceiling and floor; posters or pictures may help in a room with plain walls.
These are headset camera and room-tracking steps; they do not resolve a controller that cannot pair over Bluetooth. Sony’s PC troubleshooting guide distinguishes the headset setup from Bluetooth adapter connection problems.

Check SteamVR, firmware, and the PC adapter only when relevant
Both controllers pair, but a game responds incorrectly
Press PS to open the SteamVR dashboard and check controller battery levels. If the controllers work in the dashboard but not as expected in a particular game, check that game’s SteamVR controller bindings; Sony notes that some games may need their bindings changed. That symptom alone does not show that Bluetooth pairing failed.
Update PS VR2 firmware in the Windows app
In PlayStation VR2 App on PC, choose Update for the device that needs an update, wait until the app shows Up to date, then restart SteamVR. Sony documents this update path, but does not claim that updating fixes every pairing or tracking problem. See the PS VR2 PC setup guide.

The headset or PC adapter is not detected
Use these checks for headset detection, setup, or USB connection errors—not as a first response to controller Bluetooth trouble:
- Reconnect the cables and confirm the PC meets Sony’s minimum requirements.
- Use a DisplayPort 1.4-or-higher cable, check the PlayStation VR2 App connection, and make sure SteamVR Direct Mode is enabled.
- Connect the PS VR2 PC adapter directly to a USB 3.0 port. If needed, try a different port.
- Do not connect the PC adapter itself through a USB hub or extension cable. This restriction does not contradict Sony’s separate suggestion to use a USB 2.0 extension cable to position an external Bluetooth dongle.

Does the controller’s reset button fix PC pairing?
Sony’s PS5 troubleshooting guidance describes pressing the physical reset button on the back of a Sense controller, reconnecting it to a PS5 with USB, and pressing PS. That is PS5 guidance; it does not establish the reset procedure as a fix for pairing with a PC. For PC pairing or disconnects, start with Windows Bluetooth pairing, adapter conditions, and driver steps. See Sony’s PS5 PS VR2 troubleshooting guidance.
