On a compatible Samsung TV, open Settings or All Settings, then go to Apple AirPlay Settings—usually under General or Connection—and turn AirPlay on. The exact menu path depends on the TV model and software. Your TV and Apple device also need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Check whether your Samsung TV supports AirPlay
AirPlay is available on select Samsung TVs, not every Smart TV. Samsung’s US guidance covers select 2018–2025 models, while its UK guide lists supported model families; neither year range guarantees support for every TV made in those years. Check your exact model’s documentation or look in the TV menu for Apple AirPlay Settings. Samsung’s UK guide says that menu’s presence indicates compatibility. Samsung UK’s AirPlay 2 guide was updated 7 January 2025; regional compatibility lists can differ.
Turn on AirPlay in the TV settings
- Press the remote’s Home button and open Settings or All Settings.
- Open General or Connection, then select Apple AirPlay Settings. Samsung’s menu path varies: its guides place the option under General on many models and under Connection on some newer TVs.
- Select AirPlay and switch it on if it is off.
If the menu labels differ, follow the path displayed on your own TV. Samsung’s regional instructions show variations by model year and software: see its US iPhone AirPlay guide and Singapore guide.
Adjust AirPlay settings
Choose when a code is required
In Apple AirPlay Settings, open Require Code to choose when the TV asks for a passcode. Available choices vary by model and can include requesting a code the first time, every time, or using a custom code. When a code appears during connection, enter the code shown on the TV into your Apple device.

Clear paired devices
The same settings area may offer an option to reset paired devices. Use it to clear Apple devices the TV has remembered; those devices will need to connect again.
Set captions or check AirPlay information
Where available, Subtitles and Captioning lets you turn captions on or adjust their appearance. About AirPlay may show the AirPlay version and legal information. These controls are not present on every model.

Stream or mirror from an Apple device
- Connect the Samsung TV and Apple device to the same Wi-Fi network.
- For a photo or video, open it on the iPhone or iPad, use its Share or AirPlay control, and select the Samsung TV.
- To mirror an iPhone or iPad screen, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, and select the TV.
- If the TV displays a code, enter it on the Apple device.
Samsung says most mobile hotspots do not allow connected devices to communicate with each other, so having both devices connected to the hotspot may still not be enough for AirPlay. See Samsung’s AirPlay connection guidance.
Troubleshoot missing or unavailable AirPlay settings
AirPlay is grayed out or the devices will not connect
Check that the TV is online and that it and the Apple device are on the same Wi-Fi network. Samsung identifies network problems as one cause of grayed-out options. Its grayed-out menu troubleshooting guide gives a Smart Hub reset as a later step: Settings > Support > Device Care > Self Diagnosis > Reset Smart Hub. The default PIN is 0000. A Smart Hub reset changes Smart Hub state, so try the network checks first.

The Apple AirPlay Settings menu is missing
Check the support information for your exact TV model. Support is limited to selected models, and year alone does not confirm eligibility. If Samsung lists your model as compatible but the menu is still absent, consult Samsung support for model- and software-specific troubleshooting; an external app or accessory does not add the TV’s native AirPlay settings.

One alternative is to use an Apple TV 4K as a separate AirPlay receiver connected to the television. Apple documents streaming and mirroring to Apple TV 4K, as well as streaming from an iPhone to a compatible smart TV, in its iPhone streaming guide and Apple TV AirPlay guide. This uses the Apple TV as the destination; it does not enable native AirPlay settings on an unsupported Samsung TV.
