Choose the settings for your input device, then adjust sensitivity in small steps until you can track targets and turn comfortably. For audio, Epic’s PC competitive guide recommends trying 3D Headphones and Visualize Sound Effects; treat both as starting points, not guaranteed advantages or Zero Build-specific settings.
Open the settings for your input device
Fortnite separates mouse-and-keyboard controls, controller settings, button mappings, and audio options. Use the category that matches how you are playing; changing a controller setting will not calibrate mouse aim, for example.
- Open the in-game menu. Use Esc on PC or Mac, Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox, or + on Switch.
- Select the gear icon, then choose the tab for your input method. Mouse-and-keyboard players use the arrow-keys icon; controller players use the gamepad icon. On PC, you can also select the controller in Controller Configuration.
- For mouse sensitivity and keyboard movement, open Mouse & Keyboard. For key assignments, use Keyboard Controls. Controller contains movement, weapon handling, deadzone, and sensitivity options; Controller Mapping contains presets and button assignments.
- Adjust sound quality and voice chat under Volume settings.
Epic notes that available settings can depend on the selected game mode. If an option is missing, check that the intended mode is selected. The menu steps and input categories are described in Epic’s control-settings support page and Fortnite’s menu documentation.
Find a sensitivity that suits your input
Official sources reviewed do not establish a universal Zero Build sensitivity value. Epic’s 2026 guide gives a 5–10% mouse X- and Y-axis range as a PC competitive starting point. That is guidance for PC mouse users generally—not a measured performance result, a Zero Build-specific benchmark, or a controller recommendation. Mouse and keyboard
If you use a mouse, use Epic’s range only as a place to begin. Try a value, then assess whether you can follow a moving target without losing control and turn without excessive effort.
Controller
Do not apply the mouse percentage range to controller sensitivity. Controller aim depends on its own sensitivity and deadzone options, and Epic does not prescribe a Zero Build controller value in the cited material.

A practical adjustment loop
This is a calibration method, not an Epic-tested preset:
- Use a low-pressure practice setting and note how your current aim and turning feel.
- Change one sensitivity value at a time, by a small amount, so you can tell what caused any difference.
- If you repeatedly overshoot targets, try a small reduction. If turning feels laborious, try a small increase.
- Keep the change only if tracking and turning feel more controlled; otherwise restore the earlier value and try a different small adjustment.
Controller aim assist
Epic documents this path for aim assist: Controller options > Sensitivity > Use Advanced Options > Aim Assist, then select Apply. This is a navigation instruction, not a prescribed aim-assist amount. Epic cautions that not all settings are available on all platforms; details are on its aim-assist support page.

Try audio cues, then keep what works for you
Dave Tach’s Epic Games Store guide, published April 30, 2026, says, “Most of Fortnite’s audio settings are personal preference, but two stand out.” The guide is for competitive PC play, so its suggestions are reasonable options to try—not proof of a Zero Build advantage or instructions guaranteed to apply identically on every platform.
- 3D Headphones: Epic recommends turning this on for its built-in binaural audio experience through headphones. The guide advises using Fortnite’s built-in audio rather than third-party software running in the background. Epic’s accessibility support says 3D audio features may help headphone users pinpoint enemy direction.
- Visualize Sound Effects: Epic recommends trying this option. It displays a radial indicator for the direction of certain Fortnite sounds, which may be useful if visual cues suit your play or hearing needs.

Use hardware only when it meets a real need
Headphones are relevant if you want to use 3D headphone audio, but no particular headset is established as superior. If choosing one, consider compatibility with your platform, comfort for the length of your sessions, wired versus wireless preference, and whether you want an integrated microphone. These are practical selection criteria, not performance findings.
Accessibility hardware such as the Xbox Accessibility Controller and its accessories is relevant to players who need it; it is not a routine settings upgrade. Check platform compatibility and your own access needs rather than treating it as a general competitive recommendation.
