For a GitHub-centered team already paying for Copilot, GitHub Copilot code review is the natural integrated option to assess. CodeRabbit is worth comparing if you want a dedicated product with published feature tiers; Greptile is a candidate when repository context, multiple code hosts, or self-hosting matter. Choose by workflow fit, review context, deployment and controls, and the complete cost—not by a vendor feature list or one benchmark score.
How to choose an automated PR code-review tool
Automated review can flag potential problems and suggest changes, but it is an assistive layer in a pull-request workflow, not a replacement for tests, security practices, or human judgment. Compare candidate tools against the repositories and rules your team actually uses.
- Code-host fit: Check that the tool works with your code host and the way your team opens and reviews PRs.
- Context: Find out whether it reviews the diff alone or can use repository context. That distinction may affect whether a finding makes sense across files.
- Control and deployment: Verify review triggers, configuration, approval behavior, and any self-managed or enterprise requirements.
- Total cost: Account for seats, included AI credits, overage usage, and any CI or Actions consumption.
- Evidence quality: Treat benchmark results as evidence from a specific test, not a guarantee for your own languages, codebase, settings, or product version.

GitHub Copilot code review: integrated choice for GitHub teams
Copilot code review is a paid feature for supported GitHub surfaces and IDEs. The GitHub Copilot plans page lists the feature as unavailable on Free and included on Pro, Pro+, and Max at the time described there. Confirm current plan availability before choosing.
Review behavior can depend on repository, organization, and user settings. By default, a PR is reviewed once; configure reviews on new pushes if that better fits your workflow. GitHub documents Lite and Balanced effort levels. Its estimates are $0.05–$1 in AI credits for a Lite review and $0.25–$5 for a Balanced review, excluding GitHub Actions minutes. These are vendor estimates that vary with PR size and custom instructions and may change as models evolve. Balanced uses more AI credits and may use more Actions minutes. See GitHub’s code review documentation for current behavior and cost details.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Some file types, including dependency-management files, logs, and SVGs, are excluded from review. Copilot approval assessments do not count toward required approvals by default; GitHub marks approval assessments as public preview and requires configuration. This makes Copilot a practical option to investigate if your workflow is already GitHub-centered, but model both AI-credit and Actions usage where applicable.
CodeRabbit: dedicated product with tiered plans
CodeRabbit publishes Essentials, Team, Advanced, and Enterprise plans. Its pricing page lists Essentials at $24, Team at $48, and Advanced at $72 per developer per month when billed annually. It also says public repositories can receive free reviews after sign-up and installation. Plan features and limits differ, and the page lists separately priced security-scanning and agent-runtime products. Check the CodeRabbit pricing page for current terms, included limits, and public-repository conditions before budgeting.

CodeRabbit is a candidate for teams evaluating a dedicated review service and its tiered features. Vendor feature descriptions—and a result from one benchmark—should not be read as a promise that it will detect a particular class of issue in your codebase.
Greptile: repository context and multiple code hosts
Greptile says its reviews use repository context to analyze syntax, logic, and style issues and suggest fixes. It lists GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Cursor Origin support, as well as enterprise and self-managed options. Its FAQ describes a free Starter plan for one active developer with unlimited repositories and 50 credits per month; Pro is listed at $30 per seat per month with 50 credits per seat, with additional credits at $1 each. The vendor lists review types costing 1, 3, or 10 credits. These are vendor-stated terms and may change; confirm the current plan and what each review uses at Greptile.

Greptile is worth investigating when repository context, supported code-provider options, or self-hosting are important. The vendor says it can be self-hosted in AWS and used with a customer’s own LLM providers; confirm the actual hosting, data, and plan requirements directly for your deployment.
What a published comparison can—and cannot—tell you
Signal65’s 2026 report, Evaluating AI Code Review Tools: A Real-World Bug Detection Study, compared CodeRabbit, Cursor BugBot, GitHub Copilot, Greptile, and Qodo Merge. It selected ten historical bug-introducing PRs in each of six open-source repositories, recreated changes immediately before the bug, ran the tools in isolation with default settings, and had analysts grade findings against a rubric. A bug counted only when a finding included an inline comment pointing to specific code lines.

The report gives CodeRabbit a 95.88% precision result and says it led in critical-bug detection in five of the six repositories and had the fewest incorrect findings in four of six. Those results describe this test: 60 historical PRs across six repositories, with default configurations. The report also describes repositories where other tools performed better. The sample and setup cannot establish a universal ranking or predict results for your languages, codebase, configuration, or current versions. Read the methodology and limitations in the Signal65 report before using its results to shortlist a product.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical selection process
- Start with your code host and deployment constraints. Eliminate tools that do not support your repository platform or required hosting model. For self-hosting or data requirements, confirm the specific arrangement with the vendor.
- Map review context to the work. Decide whether diff-level feedback is sufficient or repository context is important, then test the shortlisted tool on representative changes.
- Set review controls deliberately. Check when automated reviews run, what files are excluded, how settings are managed, and whether AI-generated approval assessments have any effect on required approvals.
- Estimate costs from usage, not just the headline plan. For Copilot, include AI credits and potentially Actions minutes. For credit-based plans, estimate reviews per month and check credit use and overage terms. Recheck prices and inclusions before purchase.
- Evaluate findings against your own review bar. Track actionable findings, missed issues, and incorrect or noisy comments on your repositories. Keep normal testing and review practices in place while assessing results.
Use automated review alongside engineering judgment
GitHub says users should use Copilot together with good testing and code-review practices, security tools, and their own judgment. That is a useful standard for any automated reviewer: consider its comments as suggestions to verify, not as evidence that a change is safe. No single product page or benchmark establishes how well a tool will perform on your team’s code.
