If a party game room code doesn’t work, first ask the host to confirm the code currently on screen and make sure the game is still accepting players. Then use the game’s official join page. If the code is current and the session is active, troubleshoot the browser, device, or network. The right steps depend on the game: Jackbox and Kahoot! use different joining systems.
1. Confirm the code and that the game is still open
Ask the host to read or show the code currently displayed, then enter it again carefully. A code from an earlier round or session may be stale, especially if the host restarted or ended the game. Check with the host that joining is still open and that the session has not ended or been locked.
For Kahoot!, a PIN is tied to a particular live game or assignment. A live-game PIN stops working when the session ends, and a restart may make the old PIN unusable. Assignment PINs are subject to a deadline, and the host can lock joining. Kahoot! says late joining is available only in supported live experiences and while joining remains open. Codes do not follow one universal format or expiration rule. Use the code and instructions shown for the specific game.

2. Join through the game’s official page
Jackbox
Open Jackbox.tv and enter the four-letter room code shown on the game screen. Jackbox says one user can log in per browser per device. The browser needs cookies, web sockets, HTML5, and JavaScript enabled. Its support article by Evan Jacover notes, “Any device with a web browser can join one of our games to play!” See Jackbox’s joining instructions.
Kahoot!
Use kahoot.it, the Kahoot! app, a host’s direct join link, or the game’s QR code, as supported by that game. A QR code can avoid typing a PIN, but it does not bypass other requirements, such as 2-Step Join if the host has enabled it. The host can confirm which joining options are available.

3. If the code is accepted but joining does not complete
Troubleshoot a Jackbox player device
Try these reversible checks in order, following Jackbox’s device-connection guidance:
- Refresh the Jackbox.tv page.
- Confirm that cookies and JavaScript are enabled.
- Try another supported browser.
- Temporarily disable an ad blocker or browser extension that could interfere.
- Test without a VPN, if one is in use, or try rebooting the router.
Do not clear cookies or browser history as an early step during an active game: Jackbox cautions that doing so may prevent you from rejoining.

Troubleshoot the Jackbox host’s connection
If the host’s game cannot reach Jackbox’s servers, the host can close and reopen the game, restart the device running it, reboot the router, check for firewall or antivirus interference, or test another network or a wired connection. Jackbox’s device-connection guidance and server-connection guidance describe these checks. Server port details vary by Party Pack version; do not change firewall settings unless the instructions for the specific game and the network administrator confirm that it is necessary.
Troubleshoot a Kahoot! connection
Kahoot! says network or security settings are frequent causes of connection problems and recommends using its connection test. Server-side problems can also occur. If several players are affected, check Kahoot!’s official status page rather than assuming the service is down. More steps are in Kahoot!’s connectivity guidance.

4. Use who else is affected to narrow the cause
- Only one player cannot join: If others can use the same code, focus on that player’s join page, browser, device, extensions, VPN, or network. This points to a local issue but does not prove which one.
- Nobody can join: Ask the host to verify that the session is active and accepting players, then check the host’s connection and the relevant game service.
- It works in another browser or network: Browser settings, extensions, VPN use, or network filtering become more plausible causes, but the successful test alone does not identify the exact fault.
5. Contact support if the problem persists
Use the game publisher’s official support channel if these checks do not resolve the problem. Jackbox provides a support request form. Include the game and platform, the exact error, whether other players can join, and the steps already tried. Avoid sharing a live room code publicly.
