Not on the available evidence. Metacritic’s top-ranked Star Wars game scores higher than its top-ranked film, but that compares two leaders—not the typical game with the typical movie. Metacritic also says its Star Wars game list omits many older games, mobile games and compilations, so it cannot establish a franchise-wide pattern.
What the Metacritic scores show
Using one aggregator and one measure—the critic Metascore—does produce a useful comparison of the listed titles. In Metacritic’s page snapshots accessed October 4, 2026, the Xbox version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003) leads the games feature at 94. The highest-ranked film in Metacritic’s movie feature is Star Wars (1977), at 90.
| Metacritic feature entry | Metascore | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox, 2003) | 94 | Top entry in Metacritic’s ranked Star Wars games feature |
| Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (PC, 1997) | 91 | Another high-ranked game entry |
| Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II (GameCube, 2001) | 90 | Another high-ranked game entry |
| Star Wars (1977) | 90 | Top entry in Metacritic’s ranked Star Wars film feature |
| The Last Jedi (2017) | 84 | Film entry in Metacritic’s ranked feature |
| The Empire Strikes Back (1980) | 82 | Film entry in Metacritic’s ranked feature |
These are Metacritic page-snapshot values accessed October 4, 2026; scores can change. They show that some games score very highly and that the top listed game is above the top listed film. They do not reveal whether games as a group usually score higher.

To say one medium is “usually” rated higher, you would need a defined population and a consistent statistic—such as the median critic score across all eligible games and films. The available features are ranked lists, not a complete, controlled comparison of every Star Wars release.
#1 Best Overall
- The following games are included in the cartridge: STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (3.6 GB)
- STAR WARS Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (1.1 GB)
- STAR WARS Episode I Racer (254 MB)
- STAR WARS Republic Commando (2.5 GB)
- STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed (3.4 GB)
Metacritic explicitly cautions that its games database does not include every Star Wars game, particularly older releases that pre-date the site. Its feature also excludes mobile games and compilations. The available material does not provide a complete aligned dataset from which to calculate a representative mean or median for games versus films. So the defensible conclusion is narrower: some listed games outrank the films, but whether a typical game does is not established.
Keep Metascores separate from Rotten Tomatoes percentages
Rotten Tomatoes provides a different kind of film rating: the Tomatometer, shown as a percentage. Its page snapshot accessed October 4, 2026 lists A New Hope and The Force Awakens at 93%, The Last Jedi at 91%, and Solo: A Star Wars Story at 69%.

- Jump into the pilot seat. Pilot your ship, the Trailblazer, as you engage in thrilling dogfights with the Empire and other foes. Find the right opportunities to chase, evade, and attack to get the upper hand.
Those percentages should not be compared directly with game Metascores. A Tomatometer percentage and a Metascore are different measures, even though both are commonly presented on a 0–100 scale. For a like-for-like comparison, stick to one aggregator and rating type—and remember that incomplete game coverage still limits any “usually” claim.

A recent game is an example, not a franchise-wide result
On October 2, 2026, GamesRadar+ reported that Star Wars: Galactic Racer had a Metacritic score of 88 after 50 reviews and was then the fifth-best-rated Star Wars game. That score placed it above every Star Wars film except the original, according to the article. It is a time-specific snapshot of one game, not evidence that Star Wars games generally rate higher.

- Battery: No battery used
What a fairer comparison would require
A sound answer would first define what counts as a game and a movie, which platforms and editions are included, and whether the comparison uses critic scores or audience ratings. It would then use the same aggregator and score type across both groups, account for different review coverage, and compare a statistic such as the median rather than only the highest-ranked entries. The available sources do not supply that complete aligned comparison.
