How do I improve battery life on my Google Pixel 10a?
Start with the settings that can reduce unnecessary background or display activity, then use Battery usage to decide whether a particular app needs attention. Avoid changing several settings at once: a targeted adjustment makes it easier to tell what helped.
Keep Adaptive Battery and app optimization on
Google says Adaptive Battery learns how you use the phone and can limit background activity for apps you use less often. As Google puts it, “The Pixel battery continuously learns your behaviors and optimizes itself based on your most recent app usage.” Keep Adaptive Battery and battery optimization enabled unless you have a specific reason to exempt an app. Optimization can reduce an app’s performance or delay its notifications. After initial setup or a factory reset, allow a few weeks for usage patterns to settle.
Find the source of drain
- Open Settings → Battery → Battery usage.
- Review the battery-use chart and switch between the app and system views.
- If an app stands out, inspect its background use and consider whether it needs to run when you are not using it.
Battery-use percentages may be rounded, so treat them as a guide to investigate rather than precise measurements of each app’s contribution.

Reduce display and connectivity use when practical
- Lower screen brightness, especially when the display is brighter than your surroundings require.
- Try Dark theme and turn off live wallpapers if you do not need them.
- Turn off hotspot or tethering when no device is connected.
The impact varies with your apps and usage. Google does not publish a Pixel 10a-specific number of minutes or hours saved by each change, so avoid expecting a fixed improvement.
Which Pixel 10a battery-saving mode should I use?
Use Battery Saver when the charge is low and you need the phone to last longer. Extreme Battery Saver is the more restrictive choice when conserving charge matters more than keeping every feature available. These modes trade some functions for runtime; they are not settings for faster recharging.

Google lists up to 120 hours with Extreme Battery Saver for the Pixel 10a. That is a mode-specific estimate, not a promise of 120 hours in typical use. Google’s published battery figures depend on usage and were based on laboratory tests on pre-production hardware and software on a major US carrier network in California in late 2025. The test profile mixed talk, data, standby, and other use; Extreme Battery Saver disables features including 5G. Your results will vary.
How can I protect Pixel 10a battery health while charging?
Charging optimization is intended to support long-term battery health, not to increase the charge available for a particular day. Choose the option that fits your routine:

Heat matters too: Google says a hot battery drains faster, including when the phone is not in use, and heat can damage it. Avoid leaving the phone charging longer than needed in hot conditions.
Does a faster charger improve battery life?
No. A charger changes how quickly the phone recharges; it does not increase runtime after you unplug it. Google specifies a 45W USB-C PPS charger or higher for the Pixel 10a’s advertised rate of up to 50% charge in about 30 minutes, with the charger sold separately. That is a charging-speed figure, not an endurance gain. Google also provides guidance on compatible USB-C cables and adapters in its Pixel charging help.
Why is my Pixel 10a battery draining so fast?
Check Battery usage first to see whether an app or system function is using more power than expected. Background activity, a bright display, or a hotspot left on are practical things to review. If the phone was recently updated, Google says a little extra drain is normal while software downloads and optimizes. If unusual drain continues after a few days, follow Google’s battery-drain troubleshooting steps.
