Start with three built-in screens: Settings > Privacy & Security to review app access, Settings > Battery to check usage and charging options, and Settings > General > iPhone Storage to decide what to keep or remove. Make targeted changes rather than switching off every permission or deleting data blindly. Menu names and availability can vary by iPhone model, language, and region; follow the labels on your device if a path differs.
1. Review privacy permissions one app or data type at a time
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security and inspect the categories relevant to how you use your iPhone, such as Location Services, Photos, Contacts, Bluetooth, Microphone, Camera, Health, and Files and Folders. Apple says these lists show apps that have requested access, and you can grant or revoke it. Its guidance describes the purpose of these controls as helping you decide which apps can access information stored on your device: Apple’s privacy and Location Services guidance.
For each app, weigh the access it has against what the app needs to do. Keep a permission when it supports a feature you rely on; reduce or revoke access that is unnecessary. If the reason for a request is unclear, check the app’s stated purpose and privacy policy before deciding.
Check location precision before disabling location entirely
Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, then review apps individually. For an app that does not need your exact position, turning off Precise Location can allow it to receive an approximate location instead. The right choice depends on the feature: navigation may need precision, while some other services may work with less.

Turning off Location Services for everything is a much broader change. Apple warns that it can limit Apple and third-party app performance, and important features may stop working. If a particular app seems to have more location access than it needs, adjust that app rather than disabling location across the iPhone.
Know what the Apple Intelligence Report covers
If Apple Intelligence is available on your device and in your region, Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Intelligence Report can show requests sent to Private Cloud Compute. You can view the last 15 minutes by default or choose the last 7 days, and export the report. A blank report can simply mean there have been no requests during the selected period; it does not mean the report covers every kind of data use.

Apple’s iOS 27 guide says Apple Intelligence requires an eligible iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later. Availability also varies by language and region. See Apple’s iOS 27 guide to Apple Intelligence and privacy.
2. Choose battery settings for your model and routine
First open Settings > Battery and look at which apps and activities use power. Battery life means the time between charges; battery lifespan is how long the battery lasts before it needs replacement. A charging setting may help manage battery wear, but it cannot restore capacity already lost through chemical aging or promise a particular increase in daily runtime.

iPhone 15 models and later: consider Charge Limit
On iPhone 15 models and later, open Settings > Battery > Charging. Apple documents a Charge Limit from 80% to 100% in 5-percentage-point increments. Limiting the charge can reduce how long the phone remains fully charged, trading some available charge for a battery-lifespan goal. If you routinely need a full charge, factor that practical need into your choice.
At a 100% Charge Limit, Optimized Battery Charging is available. When conditions suit, it can delay charging past 80% to reduce the time the phone spends fully charged. iPhone 14 models and earlier: check Optimized Battery Charging
On iPhone 14 models and earlier, the documented path is Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. There you can review Optimized Battery Charging. These models do not have the iPhone 15-and-later Charge Limit control described above.
Use Battery Health to tell settings issues from battery aging
The Battery Health screen reports maximum capacity and peak performance capability. Rechargeable batteries chemically age: capacity declines over time, which can shorten runtime. Apple’s design figures are 80% of original capacity after 500 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions for iPhone 14 models and earlier, and 80% after 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions for iPhone 15 models. These are Apple’s 2026 design statements, not predictions for an individual phone; actual capacity depends on use and charging. If Battery Health reports significant degradation, service may be worth considering because a setting cannot reverse chemical aging. See Apple’s iPhone battery and performance guidance.

Apple’s iOS 26 feature document describes Adaptive Power and a redesigned Battery interface, but that document alone does not establish their availability or behavior in iOS 27. Verify any such feature on your installed iOS version and specific iPhone rather than assuming an iOS 26 description applies: Apple’s iOS 26 feature list.

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. The screen shows app storage use and recommendations. Look first at large apps, downloaded media, videos, and message attachments, then decide whether each item should be removed, moved, or kept. Choose Offload App or Delete App deliberately
- Offload App frees space used by the app while keeping its documents and data. This can suit an app you rarely use but may want again.
- Delete App removes the app and its related data. Check for documents, downloads, or other information you need before confirming.
Understand what the storage categories include
iPhone storage can include apps and their content, photos, media, mail, messages, locally downloaded iCloud Drive files, “Other,” and “System.” Some cached and temporary files are removed by the device when space is needed. Apple notes that some cached or system data cannot be manually removed from the iPhone, so you do not need a separate cleaner app or a promised manual cache-clearing trick to use the built-in storage controls.
