The 144 MB figure circulating in leak coverage refers to a reported big last-level cache (bLLC) pool—not 144 MB of native L3 on the purported top model. A larger cache could help some games, but there are no verified Nova Lake BFC gaming benchmarks showing whether it does.
What does Core Ultra BFC mean?
BFC is a suffix appearing in a leaked list of prospective Intel Nova Lake desktop processors. Intel has not confirmed the label or explained what the initials officially stand for. The safe description is simply “BFC,” the suffix used in the leak; expansions circulating online are unverified.

The same reports use bLLC to describe the rumored enlarged cache feature: “Big Last-Level Cache.” That term describes the cache pool in the leak coverage, not an Intel-confirmed product name or specification. Tom’s Hardware’s October 2, 2026 report explicitly says the names and specifications are rumored and unconfirmed by Intel.
What does the rumored 144 MB cache figure refer to?
It is important not to describe the 144 MB headline as 144 MB of native L3. In its October 2, 2026 rumor table, ComputerBase lists 144 MB of bLLC and 36 MB of native L3 for the purported Core Ultra 9 4970K BFC. These are separate reported amounts, and neither is confirmed by Intel.

ComputerBase’s same table gives other rumored BFC configurations different cache figures:
| Rumored model | Reported bLLC | Reported native L3 | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core Ultra 9 4970K BFC | 144 MB | 36 MB | Leak; not Intel-confirmed |

| Core Ultra 9 4900 BFC | 108 MB | 27 MB | Leak; not Intel-confirmed |
These figures come from a rumor table, not an Intel specification sheet. Earlier Tom’s Hardware leak coverage also distinguishes reported bLLC capacity from native L3 and describes its information as preliminary and unofficial.

Which Nova Lake desktop models are rumored to have BFC?
Tom’s Hardware’s October 2, 2026 report lists three BFC-tagged models among seven rumored desktop SKUs. The configurations below are claims from that leak, not confirmed Intel products. The report gives no cache sizes for each row, so the separate ComputerBase cache figures should not be treated as though they were part of this lineup table.

Could more cache make Nova Lake faster for gaming?
Potentially, in games that benefit from keeping frequently used data close to the CPU cores. The rumored cache has been framed as a possible gaming-focused move against AMD’s X3D processors, but that describes the competitive context—not a measured result.
Cache capacity alone cannot establish frame rates, frame-time consistency, or a win over another processor. Outcomes can vary by game, resolution, GPU limits, memory behavior, and processor configuration. The cited reports provide no independently measured Nova Lake BFC gaming results or quantified performance uplift.

A meaningful comparison will need independent testing of retail hardware. Useful results would include game-by-game average frame rates and 1% lows with a stated resolution and GPU, tests in both cache-sensitive and less cache-sensitive workloads, and comparable power, temperature, and noise measurements. The cache figures should also be identified as native L3 or a separate cache pool.

No. Tom’s Hardware reports Nova Lake-associated entries in USB-IF and PCI-SIG compliance information, including a mobile Nova Lake-H entry associated with USB4 80 Gbps compliance and a desktop chipset entry associated with USB 3.2 Gen2 compliance. It also discusses PCI-SIG listings associated with a 900-series chipset and an unidentified processor entry; the report cautions that the processor entry cannot be identified with certainty as a desktop Nova Lake CPU. Those listings are evidence of platform-related compliance activity, not proof of BFC branding, cache capacity, final CPU configurations, or performance.
