Larian documented fixes for several particular scene triggers, but it has not published one universal fix for every scene that fails to appear. Also, “new content missing” may mean something different: Larian said Patch 8 would be the last game patch to introduce new content, while maintenance fixes could continue.
Start by identifying which scene is missing
Before changing your game or save, write down the character, act, scene type, and circumstances. In particular, note whether you mean a romance scene, a camp scene, a final scene, or an epilogue moment—and whether Karlach or Astarion is your player character or a companion. Larian’s past fixes addressed different triggers and conditions, so a fix for one scene does not diagnose another.
- Which character and act are involved?
- Is the scene romantic, a camp interaction, an ending scene, or an epilogue scene?
- Is the character the player avatar or a companion?
- What happened immediately before you expected the scene, and are mods installed?
Which Karlach and Astarion scene triggers did Larian fix?
Larian’s notes document several historical issues. These are useful comparisons for a matching scene, not proof that an unspecified scene in a current save has the same cause.

Did Baldur’s Gate 3 stop adding new scenes?
Yes, in the specific sense of new narrative content in later game patches. On April 15, 2025, Larian said: “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” Read Larian’s Patch 8 announcement. That announcement did not say that maintenance would end. Larian’s support listing includes Hotfix 36, dated March 26, 2026; check the current support listing for later entries or updates.

So a scene that you expected but did not see may be a missed story condition, a scene-specific bug, or a mod-related issue. It should not automatically be treated as narrative content that a later patch was supposed to add.
How to troubleshoot a scene that still will not appear
- Record the scene and playthrough context. Note the act, scene type, character role (avatar or companion), platform, and what happened immediately beforehand. This helps distinguish the documented cases above from a different trigger.
- Check your installed game version. Compare it with Larian’s official patch and support listing. Hotfix 36, dated March 26, 2026, is listed there; the live page may change.
- If you use mods, isolate them carefully. Larian advises updating mods and testing whether the issue persists with supported mods disabled. For third-party mods, follow the separate removal steps in Larian’s mod-issues FAQ, which covers relevant install and profile folders. Do not treat deletion of files or save editing as a casual first step.
- Report a persistent unmodded issue. If the scene still fails without mods and appears to be a base-game problem, send Larian a report using the process linked from its support page. Include your platform, game version, scene, act, character role, and the steps immediately before the expected trigger.
What not to assume
The official notes establish that specific scene triggers have had bugs; they do not provide a complete trigger chart or a universal way to restore a scene after a story condition was missed. They also give no current numeric count of unresolved Karlach or Astarion scene-trigger bugs. Avoid assuming that repeated Long Rests, changing story flags, scripts, or rolling back a save will solve the problem unless you have reliable guidance for the exact scene and save conditions.
