Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You can often lower streaming costs without giving up the shows you care about by auditing what your household watches, changing plans selectively, and subscribing only when a service has something you want to see. Start with each bill and renewal date, then check the title availability and plan trade-offs before making a change. Prices and catalogs change, so confirm details with the provider before switching.
Start with your viewing list and recurring charges
Write down each paid service, its monthly cost, next renewal date, and billing provider. Add the shows or live events your household watched recently or plans to watch soon. This turns a vague sense that streaming is expensive into a practical decision: which subscriptions are earning their place before the next charge?
That concern is widespread: a 2025 affordability snapshot from the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation reported that nearly half of subscribers said they paid too much for the streaming services they used, while 40 percent said the content was not worth the price. Those figures describe the committee’s 2025 snapshot, not current prices or a guarantee about any individual household.
- Service and price: Include taxes or other charges shown on your bill.
- Renewal date and billing channel: The provider may bill you directly, or a third party or package may manage the subscription.
- What you watch: Name the titles, sports, or live events that justify keeping the service.
- Near-term plans: Note upcoming seasons or events you intend to watch, rather than keeping every service indefinitely just in case.
Cancel services you are not using before the next renewal
Mark any subscription with no wanted viewing before its next renewal. Check the account’s cancellation page and who bills it; cancellation steps and terms can depend on the billing channel. If you want to return for a later season, set a reminder to reassess when it is available rather than paying through an idle period.

For example, Netflix says it bills monthly, has no annual or multi-month membership, and allows a plan change or cancellation at any time. Hulu says its cited bundle can be canceled, with service continuing through the end of the billing cycle. These terms do not establish how another service—or a third-party-billed account—handles cancellation, so check that account’s own instructions.
Consider a lower-priced plan, but check the features and titles first
As of October 4, 2026, Netflix’s U.S. Help Center lists three monthly options. The listed price is for Netflix’s direct U.S. plans; billing through a third-party package can have different pricing or eligibility. Compare the features you actually use before changing tiers.

| Netflix U.S. plan | Listed monthly price | Ads and simultaneous streams | Resolution and downloads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | $8.99 | With ads; 2 simultaneous streams | 1080p; downloads available, but some titles are unavailable on this plan |
| Standard | $19.99 | Ad-free; 2 simultaneous streams | 1080p |
| Premium | $26.99 | Ad-free; 4 simultaneous streams | 4K/HDR |
Netflix’s plans and pricing page is the source for those listed prices and plan details. It does not list a download allowance in the cited information for Standard or Premium, so do not assume the ad plan’s download availability means every title or feature is identical across tiers. Before downgrading, verify that the titles you want are available on the ad plan and that its ads, stream limit, resolution, and downloads work for your household.
Compare a bundle with the plans you would actually buy
A bundle is a saving only if its included services are useful to your household and its tiers meet your needs. Hulu’s U.S. page, checked October 4, 2026, lists this Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max bundle at the following monthly rates and compares them with the separately purchased tiers it specifies:

| Bundle option | Hulu-listed bundle price | Hulu-listed total for the comparison tiers purchased separately | Difference in Hulu’s comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| With ads | $21.99/month | $35.97/month | $13.98/month less |
| Without ads | $34.99/month | $61.47/month | $26.48/month less |
These are Hulu’s stated U.S. comparison figures, not a promise that every household will save that amount. Compare the bundle against the actual plans and billing arrangements you would otherwise keep, including any promotions or add-ons. Hulu says the offer is U.S.-only and for direct-billed purchases; content, features, and device compatibility vary by service. Select live and linear content may still carry ads in the no-ads option.
Know what access the bundle provides
The bundle does not merge the libraries into one app. The HBO Max bundle help page says subscribers use three separate apps; Hulu also notes that some HBO Max content appears in Hulu while additional content is available only in the HBO Max app. The no-ad bundle option includes HBO Max Standard, Disney+ Premium, and Hulu No Ads. HBO Max Premium and certain plans or add-ons are not available through the bundle. Check the included tiers against the resolution, features, and catalog access your household needs.

Use free catalogs and a streaming guide for the titles that fit
Free ad-supported services may cover some viewing without replacing every paid subscription or carrying a particular exclusive. Tubi promotes free movies and TV, while Pluto TV offers free movies, shows, and live TV. Search each service for the specific title you want before relying on it as a substitute; availability can change.
A discovery guide can help you identify where a movie or show may be available before you subscribe. JustWatch’s U.S. streaming guide lists movies and TV shows across services. Treat a guide as a starting point and confirm availability with the provider, since catalogs and rights change.

Follow a repeatable review before each renewal
- List the active services: Record price, renewal date, billing provider, and the specific shows or live events watched or planned.
- Flag idle subscriptions: If nothing you want to watch arrives before renewal, check the cancellation terms and set a reminder to reconsider later.
- Check lower tiers: For services you keep, compare ads, title availability, streams, resolution, downloads, and device needs.
- Calculate bundle value: Compare the bundle with the actual tiers and billing routes you would otherwise pay for; check app access and excluded add-ons.
- Search before subscribing: Use a discovery guide, then verify the title on the provider’s own page. Consider free catalogs where they carry suitable viewing.
- Repeat when a season ends or before renewal: Prices and catalogs should be treated as current only on the date you check them.
Follow each provider’s account-sharing rules
Do not assume that sharing a password is allowed across households. Netflix says an account cannot be shared outside its household, which it defines around devices connected to the internet at the main residence. Paid extra-member slots are available on eligible plans, but availability, price, and eligibility can vary by package. Check the provider’s current terms for any account you plan to share.
