Streaming services remove shows mainly because their licenses expire, change, or are not renewed. A show disappearing from one service does not prove it is gone everywhere—but it may not have moved to another subscription service, either. Check a current availability finder for your country, distinguish streaming from rental or purchase, and confirm the result with the service offering it.
Why do streaming services remove shows?
Many shows are licensed from studios, distributors, or other rights holders for a particular period and under particular terms. When a license nears its end, a service may renew it if the rights remain available and the deal makes sense. Netflix says it considers rights availability, a title’s popularity in a region, and licensing cost; if it does not renew a title, it says it gives viewers a heads-up. Those factors do not establish why any particular show left: low viewership alone should not be assumed to be the cause. Netflix: Why do TV shows and movies leave Netflix?
Rights may also apply differently to parts of a series. NBC says streaming rights can be limited by legal or business agreements that differ by show, including music clearances and syndication terms. ABC iview likewise says licensed terms determine how long programs remain online, and some episodes can expire before the whole series is finished. NBC: Why Do Some NBC Shows or Episodes Expire? A service’s “original” label is not a promise of permanent or worldwide availability. Netflix says some Netflix Originals are unavailable in certain regions because another company holds regional rights or the title predates Netflix’s ability to acquire exclusive rights. That explanation is specific to Netflix and should not be assumed to describe every service’s originals. Netflix: Why isn’t a TV show or movie available in your country?

Why is a show available in another country but not mine?
Streaming rights are not necessarily global or controlled by one company. Netflix notes that multiple studios or distributors may hold rights to a title, that rights may not be offered in a particular region, or that another platform may have exclusivity there. A show’s availability in one country therefore does not show that it can be watched legally in another. Netflix: regional availability

How to find where a show went
- Search the exact title. Use a legal availability finder such as JustWatch or Reelgood. Include the season if you are looking for a specific part of a series.
- Select your country. Catalogs and rights differ by territory, so a result for another country may not apply to you.
- Check the access type. A listing may be for a subscription, free or ad-supported streaming, a rental, a purchase, or access through a TV provider. These are different ways to watch, and a title may be available through one but not another.
- Confirm with the destination service. Open its own listing and verify the country, title, season, episode, and access type before subscribing or paying. A finder is a discovery aid, not a guarantee that a listing is current or playable.
- Check again later if needed. If no legal option appears, availability may change. JustWatch says account watchlists can notify users of availability changes when notifications are enabled.
JustWatch describes its service as a way to discover films and series and find where they can be legally streamed, but its terms also say availability can change and do not guarantee the accuracy or reliability of results. JustWatch Terms of Use, section 2.1 Reelgood describes availability data across subscription, ad-supported, and transactional services, and distinguishes observed live availability from the rights window a contract is supposed to allow. How to tell when a show is leaving
Look for an expiry notice on the service itself. Netflix says it alerts viewers when a title is not renewed and is about to leave. NBC says it tries to provide several days’ notice with an “expiring soon” badge. ABC iview says expiry information appears for programs scheduled for removal. Its statement that programs are available up to 30 days after broadcast in most instances applies to ABC iview, with longer periods for some programs—not to streaming services generally. Not every service provides the same notice, and an expiry notice is tied to that service’s catalog. It does not tell you whether another service has the title or whether it will remain available there.

A show may appear on another subscription service, a free ad-supported service, or a rental or purchase store. It may also be available only through a TV provider, in a different country, or nowhere legally at the moment. Check season and episode completeness as well as the platform: a listing for a series does not necessarily mean every season or episode is included. Availability finders show leads across different access models; the destination service is the place to confirm the actual offer.
