When streaming services merge, your profiles, watch history, watchlist, and billing do not necessarily move or combine automatically. The companies decide what carries over and what action subscribers need to take. Hulu and Disney+ offer one documented example: eligible Hulu subscribers can link profiles so most watch history and saved titles appear in Disney+ features, but some content and accounts are excluded. Linking also does not by itself cancel or replace Hulu billing.
What happens to my streaming profile when two services merge?
There is no universal migration rule. A company might link profiles across services, offer a separate profile-transfer tool, or specify another process. Read the provider’s own notice for the particular change rather than assuming that a merger will combine accounts, apps, or subscriptions.
Hulu and Disney+ illustrate profile linking, not a complete account migration. Disney announced that select Hulu subscribers could use the same MyDisney login to access eligible Hulu content in Disney+ without an additional charge or a change to their Hulu plan. Hulu’s support guidance describes limits on eligibility and on which data and titles appear. These sources do not establish that every Hulu subscriber has migrated or that Hulu has been shut down. Disney’s profile-linking announcement and Hulu’s linking instructions explain the arrangement.
Will my watchlist move to the new app?
It depends on the service’s feature and the title’s availability in the destination app. For eligible Hulu profiles linked to Disney+, Hulu says most saved titles from My Stuff appear in Disney+ Watchlist. That is not a guarantee that every saved title will appear: some Hulu content is unavailable on Disney+, and Disney+ Watchlist may impose a title limit. See Hulu’s guidance on what happens when Hulu content moves into Disney+.

Do my watch history and recommendations carry over?
Hulu says most watch history from an eligible linked profile appears in Disney+ Continue Watching. Disney described profile linking as bringing Hulu watch history, watchlist, and recommendations into Disney+. The help-page wording “most” matters: do not assume every item or personalization detail is copied, or that every recommendation will behave identically in both apps.
Will I have to pay twice after a streaming merger?
Do not infer billing from the app in which you watch. In the Hulu/Disney+ arrangement, Disney said eligible Hulu subscribers could stream Hulu content in Disney+ without an additional charge or a change to their Hulu plan. Hulu says customers can continue managing their Hulu subscription through Hulu or through the third-party billing partner that charges them. Who bills you therefore matters; check the account or billing partner before changing plans. Hulu’s linking guidance covers subscription management.

A bundle is different from a profile merge. Hulu’s information about the Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle says each service has its own app, features, and rules. These can differ for simultaneous streams, video quality, geography, and downloads. A bundle may provide access to multiple subscriptions, but does not make the apps or their usage rules identical. See Hulu’s bundle details.
How do bundles, profile linking, and profile transfer differ?
| Arrangement | What it means | Example and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Bundle | One offer includes more than one service subscription. | The Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle retains distinct apps, features, and service rules, according to Hulu. |
| Profile linking | A provider connects some profile data or access across services; this does not establish that accounts, apps, or subscriptions are identical. | Eligible Hulu profiles can link with Disney+ under the conditions in Hulu’s instructions. |
| Profile transfer | A user moves a profile using a service-specific transfer feature. | Netflix’s profile-transfer feature describes transferring specified personalization, history, and My List data to a new Netflix membership. It is not a general merger policy. |
Should I cancel my old subscription?
Not until you have checked what the provider says about access and who bills you. In Hulu’s documented linking case, linking does not itself cancel or replace the Hulu subscription; Hulu says subscription management remains with Hulu or the third-party billing partner. Check the account that charges you and its cancellation terms before canceling, resubscribing, or changing a bundle.

What to check before a service change
- Profile eligibility: Does the provider include your plan and profile? Hulu lists some subscriptions and add-ons, including Live TV and certain bundle configurations, as ineligible to link in its documented guidance. Check the current Hulu eligibility instructions because rules can change.
- Data fields: Find out separately whether watch history, saved titles, recommendations, and other profile details carry over.
- Title availability: A saved item may not appear if the destination service does not offer it, and the destination watchlist may have its own limit.
- Apps and service rules: Confirm which app to use and whether streams, video quality, geography, or downloads differ.
- Billing and required action: Check who charges you, whether the plan changes, and whether you must link, transfer, or update anything yourself.
Policies can change, and these examples do not establish what will happen in every streaming merger. Use the provider’s current instructions for your account before making a billing or profile change.
