Neither keyboard gives every user more control in every way. Samsung Keyboard documents more ways to manage text shortcuts and choose which apps receive text corrections. Gboard gives a clear choice of suggestion types and a quick gesture for removing an unwanted suggestion. The better fit depends on which control you need—and which options appear on your phone, in your region and language.

What Samsung Keyboard lets you control
Samsung separates several behaviors that can otherwise feel like one general “suggestions” feature. Depending on the device and software, Smart typing settings may let you switch predictive text, emoji suggestions, sticker suggestions, auto replace and text corrections on or off independently. Samsung also documents choosing which apps receive text corrections, a useful distinction if you want corrections in some apps but not others.
For reusable wording, Samsung’s Text shortcuts let you assign a short trigger to a longer phrase. For example, a brief abbreviation can expand to a frequently used address or sign-off. Samsung also documents adding or removing personalized words, including removing a word from the prediction bar.
Find Samsung’s suggestion settings
- Open Settings on your Galaxy phone.
- Tap General management, then Samsung Keyboard. Depending on your device, you may also be able to open settings from the keyboard toolbar.
- Open Smart typing and adjust the available suggestion and correction switches. To control text corrections by app, look for Manage apps.
- To create an expansion, open Text shortcuts, add a shortcut and its expanded phrase, then save it.
Samsung Canada Support’s guide, updated March 28, 2026, says: “You can also tap Manage apps to choose which apps will receive text corrections.” That guide applies to devices sold in Canada and notes that screens and settings may differ elsewhere. Samsung’s India guide also warns that options vary by device and software version, and its instructions date from June 1, 2021. What Gboard lets you control
Gboard’s Text correction settings let you choose the types of suggestions you see, such as next-word or emoji suggestions. Google also documents adding unfamiliar words to the dictionary, so the keyboard can recognize vocabulary you use.
Find Gboard’s suggestion settings
- Open the Gboard features menu and tap Settings.
- Tap Text correction.
- Choose the suggestion types and correction options available on your device.
To add a word while typing, tap its red-underlined form and choose Add to dictionary. Google’s help page lists device- and language-dependent availability for certain suggestion features, naming Pixel 4a and later and English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. It also says Smart Compose and proofreading are currently limited to US English. Check Google’s Gboard suggestions and corrections help for current eligibility rather than assuming every feature is available on every Android phone.

How to remove a word you do not want suggested
Both keyboards document a way to discard an unwanted suggestion, but the gestures differ. The word must be visible in the suggestion area before you can remove it.
Remove a word from Samsung Keyboard
- Type until the unwanted word appears in the prediction bar.
- Touch and hold the word.
- Confirm that you want to remove it when prompted.
Remove a word from Gboard
- Wait for the unwanted word to appear among Gboard’s suggestions.
- Touch and hold the suggestion.
- Drag it to the bin to remove it.

Which keyboard should you choose?
- Choose Samsung Keyboard if you want documented controls for routing text corrections to selected apps or want built-in phrase shortcuts to expand reusable text.
- Choose Gboard if you want to select suggestion types in Text correction settings, add vocabulary to a dictionary or quickly discard a suggestion by dragging it away.
- Check your own settings before switching if a particular option is essential. Menus and availability depend on the device, software, region and language.
These documented controls do not establish which keyboard predicts more accurately or lets people type faster. No controlled head-to-head comparison is provided by the cited official guidance, so choose based on the settings you can use rather than a general performance claim.
