If you mean a Google Play closed test, do not remove qualifying testers merely because 14 calendar days have passed. First confirm that the test meets the requirement for your account, then submit your production-access application and check its status in Play Console. After the test is no longer needed, use the closed-test track’s current tester controls; Google’s published guidance does not specify an exact removal sequence.
First, confirm this is a Google Play closed test
Google Play’s 14-day rule is not a universal beta-testing requirement. It applies to personal Play Console developer accounts created after November 13, 2023. Apple TestFlight and other beta programs use different requirements and tester controls.
For accounts in scope, Google requires at least 12 testers to remain opted in to a closed test continuously for at least 14 days before the developer applies for production access. See Google Play Console Help: App testing requirements for new personal developer accounts.
What to do before removing anyone
- Check the closed-test status in Play Console. Confirm that the requirement is satisfied for the account and app. Do not rely on the calendar alone; the relevant fact is whether enough testers were continuously opted in.
- Submit the production-access application. Google asks about the test, the app, and production readiness. Be ready to summarize tester feedback and explain changes made in response.
- Check the application status before ending the test. Keeping the qualifying testers opted in until you have submitted the application and checked its status is a cautious approach, not a stated Google instruction to wait for approval. Google may ask for more testing if the tester count is too low or engagement is insufficient.
- When the test is no longer needed, use the track’s current tester-management controls. Google’s cited guidance does not document the exact menu sequence for removing testers, so the available controls and labels should be checked in the current Play Console interface.
- Clean up other contact channels separately. If you invited testers through an email list, group, or chat, remove or archive their details there as appropriate. Editing those lists does not, by itself, establish that someone has opted out of the Play test.
What happens if a tester opts out early?
An opt-out before completing 14 continuous days interrupts that tester’s qualifying period. If the person opts in again later, the 14-day consecutive period starts over for that tester. Google’s guidance says: “If a tester opts out and opts back in later, the 14 days must be consecutive to count toward the minimum requirement of 12 continuous opted-in testers.”

That is why removing someone from a chat or invitation spreadsheet is not the same as ending their Play test opt-in. Keep the qualifying participants opted in while you still need their continuous participation.
Keep feedback and tester records useful
The production-access application asks you to describe testing and production readiness, including tester feedback and changes made based on what the test revealed. Keep a usable record of feedback and the app changes it prompted. Google recommends recruiting likely users from personal or professional networks or relevant communities, explaining clearly what to test, seeking a diverse group, and providing a feedback channel.
Once the test is over, handle tester contact details according to your own privacy and retention practices. That housekeeping is separate from changing eligibility for the Play test.

Meeting the minimum count and duration lets an eligible developer apply; it does not guarantee approval. Google reviews the application and may require continued testing, including when fewer than 12 testers are opted in or engagement is insufficient. If Play Console indicates more testing is needed, preserve the participants required for the test rather than ending it prematurely.
