Use music you already own or are authorized to use, transfer files from a computer, or buy downloadable tracks. These are ordinary files you can play in compatible apps; downloads inside a streaming service are a separate, app-managed option.
Choose the route that fits your music library

Play music files already on your Android phone
Open a local music player and browse for audio files stored on the device. Once the files are on the phone, playback does not require a network connection. The exact player and supported formats vary by phone, Android version, and app.
If a player does not find files you have added, place them in the phone’s Music folder and check the player’s library or folder settings. Bandcamp recommends MP3 when you are unsure which format a player supports. FLAC can be an option with a compatible player, but its files take more storage. Bandcamp’s Android download instructions explain the folder and format considerations.
Transfer music from a computer
Copy your authorized music files from a computer to the Android phone, then play them in a local player. Motorola support lists USB and Bluetooth as possible transfer methods; the steps depend on the phone and computer. Motorola’s transfer guidance describes these options.

- Check that the phone and computer support the transfer method you plan to use. For USB, confirm that the cable supports data transfer, not just charging, and that its connectors fit both devices.
- Connect the devices and select the phone’s file-transfer option if Android prompts you to choose a USB mode. Menu names and availability vary by device.
- Copy the music files into the phone’s Music folder, or another folder your player can scan.
- Disconnect the phone and open your local player. If the tracks do not appear, refresh or rescan its library, or browse directly to the folder.
A cable or USB-C flash drive is optional, not a universal requirement. Check your phone’s connector and its support for the transfer method before buying an accessory; Bluetooth or another supported workflow may suit your devices.
Buy downloadable tracks and keep them on your phone
Some music stores let you buy and download ordinary audio files. Bandcamp buyers can choose an available format after checkout and retrieve purchases from the emailed receipt, Collection page, or Purchases page. See Bandcamp’s purchase-download instructions for its available retrieval options.

For Android, Bandcamp’s instructions describe downloading a purchase, extracting its ZIP file, and moving the unzipped music into the Music folder. A local player can then play the files if it supports their format. This approach keeps the downloaded files usable outside the store app, subject to the files’ format and your player’s compatibility.
Use Bandcamp’s app for its collection downloads
Bandcamp’s Android app also lets listeners download collection items for offline playback. Its help page says downloaded items can be played offline and managed from the collection’s downloads tab. Bandcamp’s offline-listening instructions explain this app-based option. These downloads are managed in Bandcamp; they are distinct from downloading purchase files for a local player.

Bandcamp recommends having at least 1 GB of free device storage before downloading in its app. That is the service’s guidance, not a universal Android minimum. Its Android instructions also advise choosing a format your player supports and considering file size.

Offline downloads in a streaming app are not the same as keeping transferable music files on your phone. For YouTube Music, Google’s current help says downloading songs and albums for offline listening requires Premium. Premium downloads must reconnect to the internet at least once every 30 days to be maintained. The same help page says podcasts can be downloaded regardless of membership, although some episodes or shows may not support audio-only downloads; that exception does not provide free offline downloads of the general music catalog. Google’s YouTube Music help page lists these conditions.

Make the files fit your phone
- Check format compatibility: MP3 is Bandcamp’s suggested choice when you are unsure what a player can handle. FLAC requires a compatible player.
- Plan for storage: FLAC files are larger than MP3 files, so a library in a lossless format may use more phone space. Leave room for other files and apps.
- Check transfer support: USB connector type, data-transfer capability, Bluetooth support, and available storage vary by phone and computer.
- Use authorized music: Play files you own or have permission to download. “Free” does not mean that copyrighted tracks are unrestricted to copy or download.
