For printing PDFs from an Android phone, choose a wireless printer that supports Android printing through Mopria or Android’s Default Print Service. A printer being wireless does not by itself guarantee that it will appear on your phone. Epson lists the Expression Home XP-4200 as a home wireless color all-in-one example, but the available information does not establish it as a tested or objectively best printer.

What makes a printer work with Android PDFs?

Android sends print jobs through an enabled print service, while the app you use to open a PDF determines how you reach the print command. Look for explicit Android printing or Mopria support for the exact printer model; do not rely on Wi-Fi capability alone.

HP says its Mopria-certified printers work with Android’s built-in Default Print Service on Android 8.0 and newer. HP also describes the Mopria Print Service app as available for Android 5.0 and newer. These are HP’s compatibility guidelines; verify support for your phone, Android version, and specific printer before buying. HP’s Mopria compatibility guidance

A wireless printer example: Epson Expression Home XP-4200

Epson lists the Expression Home XP-4200 as a wireless color inkjet all-in-one in the home-printer section of its Mopria page. It is a concrete model to investigate if you want home color printing and all-in-one functionality, not a comparative winner: the available evidence does not establish its current price, running cost, speed, reliability, or performance against other printers. Check Epson’s current listing and confirm that the exact model is supported in your region before purchasing. Epson’s Mopria printer information

How to choose a wireless printer for PDF printing

  • Android compatibility: Confirm Android printing or Mopria support for the exact model. Certification or an explicit compatibility listing is more useful than a general claim that the printer is wireless.
  • Connection method: For standard network printing, the phone and printer generally need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi Direct is an alternative on some printers; check the model’s setup instructions if you need to print without using your home network.
  • PDF controls: Check whether the printer and print service offer the settings you need, such as page range, paper size, orientation, color or monochrome, and duplex printing.
  • Workload and printer type: Consider whether you need color, an inkjet or laser printer, and an all-in-one or print-only device. Compatibility alone does not establish which type will be cheaper or better for your workload.

Without verified model-by-model prices, consumable costs, and performance tests, a ranked “best” list would imply comparisons that are not established here. Compare those factors separately for the models you are considering.

Print a PDF from Android over Wi-Fi

  1. Connect the printer: Set up the printer on Wi-Fi using its own setup instructions. If you plan to use Wi-Fi Direct, enable it as directed by the manufacturer instead.
  2. Enable an Android print service: Open Settings and find Printing or Print services. Enable the available built-in service or install and enable Mopria if your phone and printer require it. Menu names and locations vary by device.
  3. Put the phone and printer on the same network: For ordinary network printing, connect both to the same Wi-Fi network. Follow the printer maker’s instructions for any network-specific requirements.
  4. Open the PDF and choose Print: Use the PDF app’s Print command. If there is no print option, HP says you can share, view, export, or open the PDF with Mopria Print Service. Its share route sends one PDF at a time. HP’s Mopria printing instructions
  5. Select the printer and review settings: Choose the printer, then check available options such as copies, page range, paper size, orientation, color or monochrome, and duplex. Options vary by printer; duplex and borderless output, for example, depend on model support.
  6. Print: Confirm the preview and settings, then send the job.

If the printer does not appear

  • Confirm the printer is powered on, awake, and has wireless enabled.
  • For standard Wi-Fi printing, check that the phone and printer are connected to the same network.
  • Check that the relevant Android print service is enabled and that the exact printer model supports it.
  • If using Wi-Fi Direct, follow the printer’s instructions for connecting the phone directly; this is a different route from printing through the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Check the manufacturer’s network guidance. Some printers may have router-band compatibility limits, but support varies by model.

Mopria Print Service does not support printing over a USB cable, according to HP. HP also names its Mopria-certified 1200w NFC/Wireless Mobile Print Accessory as an option for some older printers; check the accessory’s compatibility with the exact printer before relying on it.
