If a PlayStation Plus game is stuck downloading, shows a padlock, or will not start, first identify whether the failure is with the download or with access to the game. A stalled download calls for network and install checks; a padlock or subscription-verification message calls for checking the account, subscription, game availability, and licenses. Work through the matching steps below rather than repeating the same retry.
Identify where the error happens
Note the exact error code and whether it appears during download, installation, or launch. PlayStation error codes cover different problems, including download failures, license confirmation, and subscription verification, so the code can point to the relevant instructions. Use Sony’s error-code index to look it up.

For a padlock or a game that will not start, verify access
Check the account and game entitlement
- Sign in to the account that purchased or claimed the game. If needed, check that account’s transaction history.
- Confirm the PlayStation Plus subscription is active.
- Check that the specific game is still available to you through PlayStation Plus. Access depends on the title and the applicable subscription access.
- If another account owns the game, verify the sharing setup: PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play or PS4 primary-console activation.

Restore licenses
Restoring licenses is a safe diagnostic step for a padlock or access problem. Sony says it does not affect data. On the console, use the path for your system:
- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. You can also select the game on the home screen or in the game library, press the Options button, and choose the license-restoration option.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.

Check PSN before repeating a download or license check
Check the PlayStation Network service status before repeated retries. If a service alert affects the relevant feature, wait until it clears and try again.
For PS5 error CE-109258-5, Sony says the console may have failed to connect to a server before confirming license information. Its recommended sequence is to check service status, restart the console, power-cycle the router and modem, restore licenses, and try again later if necessary. When power-cycling network equipment, turn it off and wait at least five minutes before restarting it. Follow Sony’s CE-109258-5 instructions for this specific error.

For download or installation failures, retry cleanly
Use the instructions for the exact error code where Sony provides them. Its general download and install guidance includes updating system software, restoring licenses, deleting the failed download or content and downloading it again, and rebuilding the database in Safe Mode for some errors. Do not assume every step applies to every code; follow the page for the message you received.
- Check the code-specific instructions. Sony’s CE-106487-6 guidance is one example of error-specific download and installation help.
- Update console system software if the relevant instructions call for it.
- Remove and retry the failed download if directed. Make sure you are downloading the game with the account that has access to it.
- Try a wired connection if available when re-downloading. Sony suggests this as a connection diagnostic; it cannot provide a missing game entitlement or renew an expired subscription.
- Use Safe Mode database repair only when applicable. Sony lists rebuilding the database for some errors, not as a universal fix.
For a message saying the console cannot confirm a PlayStation Plus subscription, Sony recommends checking that the console is online and signed in to PSN, then checking the subscription. If sign-in works and the subscription remains active, the issue may be temporary, so try again later. See Sony’s CE-107255-0 guidance.

Contact PlayStation Support with the details that help diagnose it
If the matching checks do not resolve the problem, contact PlayStation Support. Include the exact error code, what you were doing immediately before it appeared, and a short sequence of steps that reproduces the issue. Add a screenshot or video if possible; Sony asks users to provide these details when requesting help.
