How Monthly Games and the Game Catalog differ

Do you need to claim Monthly Games?
Yes. Add each offer to your library while it is available. PlayStation Support says, “New games are added every calendar month.” The guide does not establish one universal claim-window length, so check the current offer rather than assuming every game is available for the same number of days. Find and add the offers
- On PS5: Open PlayStation Plus, go to Benefits, then Monthly Games, and select the offer to add it to your library.
- On PS4: Open PlayStation Plus, go to Monthly Games, select a game, and choose Add to Library.
- Remotely: Select an offer through a web browser or the PlayStation App and start its download to your console.
Once a Monthly Game is claimed, it is different from a game you only see in the Catalog: you can keep playing the claimed offer while your membership remains active, even after that month’s offer period ends.
Can you play Game Catalog games with Essential?
No. Essential includes Monthly Games and other core membership benefits, but Game Catalog access comes with Extra and Premium. Extra adds the Game Catalog; Premium includes the Game Catalog as well as the Classics Catalog, game trials, and cloud-streaming features in supported regions. PlayStation Plus plan benefits

For a plan decision, compare the current titles you want to play with the tier available in your region. The value of Extra or Premium depends on whether its additional library and features suit your interests; a Catalog listing should not be treated as permanent access.

Yes. The Game Catalog rotates, so a title may stop being available even if your subscription is still active. Check the game’s current listing and any announced removal date before starting a long game or deciding whether to buy it separately. What download and streaming limits should you know?
- Most games across the PlayStation Plus libraries can be downloaded, but availability depends on the title and platform.
- Premium supports streaming many Game Catalog and Classics Catalog games, subject to title, platform, and geographic availability.
- The Classics Catalog includes selected PS3 games that are available by streaming only.
