What “Meta Quest” means in this comparison
Meta’s current comparison covers two distinct headsets: Quest 3 and Quest 3S. They share the listed XR2 Gen 2 chipset and 8 GB of memory, but their displays, field of view, IPD adjustment, passthrough hardware and approximate battery estimates differ. They should not be treated as optically identical alternatives.
How the headsets are intended to be used
Steam Frame: Steam streaming first, with standalone modes too
Valve describes Steam Frame as a standalone headset primarily designed for low-latency streaming of a Steam library from a PC. It also supports standalone VR and non-VR experiences. Valve lists SteamOS, SteamVR and OpenXR compatibility, along with support for Windows and Linux PC titles and native ARM64 and Android APK software. These capabilities describe supported software paths, not a guarantee that every title works in every mode. Valve identifies the subset intended to run on-device through its Standalone Verified program; consult the compatibility status for individual games.
Quest 3 and Quest 3S: standalone first, PC VR optional
Meta positions both Quest models as wireless all-in-one headsets. Meta also lists PC VR through Quest Link over a cable or Air Link wirelessly. That gives Quest owners a route to PC VR, but it is not the same product emphasis as Steam Frame’s stated focus on streaming a Steam library.

What these numbers mean in practical terms
Quest 3 has the higher per-eye resolution and wider listed field of view. Those are useful points of comparison, but they do not establish which headset will feel sharper or more comfortable to every wearer: fit, lens position and individual vision matter. Quest 3’s continuous IPD slider also offers a different adjustment method from Quest 3S’s three presets.

Valve’s official Steamworks documentation describes the headset’s platform role and software compatibility. The accessible official Steam Frame material cited here does not establish comparable numeric display resolution, field of view, passthrough, IPD adjustment or battery estimates. Meta’s published figures therefore support a Quest 3-versus-3S comparison, but not a complete numeric hardware ranking against Steam Frame.

Valve’s Steam Frame product page lists 16 GB of RAM. Because memory capacity alone does not indicate real-world performance across different platforms and workloads, it should not be used as a direct performance verdict against Quest models.

Which headset fits your use case?
Choose Steam Frame if your focus is a Steam library on PC
- You want a headset whose primary stated role is low-latency streaming from a PC running Steam.
- You also value Valve’s stated support for standalone VR and non-VR use, while checking whether individual titles are marked for on-device play.
- You are willing to verify local availability, price and game compatibility rather than assuming the headset or every Steam title is ready to use.
Choose Quest 3 if display specifications and standalone use both matter
- You want a wireless all-in-one headset and may also use PC VR through Quest Link or Air Link.
- Within Meta’s two models here, you prefer the higher published per-eye resolution, wider field of view, continuous IPD slider and depth sensor.
Choose Quest 3S if its trade-offs suit you better
- You want Meta’s standalone platform and PC VR options, and the 3S’s listed display and three-position IPD adjustment meet your needs.
- You value its longer approximate battery estimate relative to Quest 3, keeping in mind that Meta’s figures are estimates rather than guaranteed session times.

- Game compatibility: Confirm that a title supports the mode you intend to use. Steam access does not mean every game runs standalone, and PC streaming depends on a compatible PC and network setup.
