First identify the band material: clean a Gear S3 silicone or rubber band with clean water and dry it thoroughly; clean a leather band with a soft, lint-free cloth and use only a barely damp cloth if needed. Samsung advises against soap and cleaning agents. The difference matters because Samsung says the Gear S3 Frontier originally came with silicone, while the Classic came with leather.
Identify your Gear S3 band before cleaning
The original Gear S3 Frontier band is silicone; the Gear S3 Classic band is leather, according to Samsung’s product information. A replacement band may be made from a different material, so check yours rather than assuming it matches the watch model.

Clean a silicone or rubber band
- Remove the band from the watch if practical. This lets you clean the band without wetting the watch.
- Clean it with clean water. Samsung’s general strap-care guidance recommends water for rubber and silicone. It does not establish a Gear S3-specific odor-removal test.
- Dry it completely. Use a clean cloth and make sure the band is dry before putting it back on or wearing it.
Do not substitute household products such as soap, detergent, cleaning agents, or abrasive materials. Samsung cautions against those products, as well as high-pressure water and prolonged exposure to heat, humidity, or direct sunlight. See Samsung’s strap-cleaning guidance.

- Wipe the band with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- If residue remains, slightly dampen the cloth with clean water and wipe gently. Do not soak the leather or run it under water.
- Let it dry in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Keep it away from heat and humid conditions while it dries.
Samsung’s Gear S3 user manual warns against exposing the leather band to water, sunlight, and hot or humid environments. Samsung’s later general strap guidance allows a slightly damp cloth when needed; the conservative approach is to use as little moisture as possible and avoid soaking.

Reduce sweat buildup and skin irritation
After exercise or sweating, clean your wrist and band, then dry both thoroughly before wearing the watch again. Samsung gives this advice in its guidance on properly wearing and cleaning a smartwatch. Dry skin under the band can also help avoid leaving moisture trapped against the wrist.
If you experience extreme irritation, Samsung advises stopping wear for two to three days. Contact a physician if irritation persists or worsens.

If the odor does not go away
Samsung’s published guidance does not establish that vinegar, alcohol, deodorizer, detergent, or another household treatment safely removes odor from a Gear S3 band. Avoid treating those methods as Samsung-approved cleaning steps. If the band remains odorous after material-appropriate cleaning, replacing it is a reasonable option, particularly if you regularly wear the watch during sweaty activities.
The Gear S3 supports standard 22 mm bands, according to Samsung’s product announcement. Check the watch model, band width, and connector fit before buying a replacement; width alone does not guarantee that a band will attach correctly. Silicone is a practical material to consider for repeated sweaty use because it can be cleaned with water, unlike leather, which requires gentler care.
