Clean the Gear S3’s speaker and microphone openings by wiping around them with a clean, dry, soft lint-free cloth. Don’t poke, scrape, brush, or blow air into either opening. If the watch was wet, dry it completely before testing sound again; if the problem persists, contact Samsung service.
What you need—and what to avoid
For routine cleaning, use a clean, dry, soft lint-free cloth. Samsung’s Gear S3 water guidance recommends a clean, soft cloth for drying, and its general smartwatch cleaning guidance recommends a lint-free cloth for cleaning. A cloth you already have is enough; there is no need to buy a specialty cleaner.
Samsung says not to use soap, cleaning agents, abrasive materials, or compressed air to clean a watch. Its general guidance mentions a soft-bristle toothbrush for stains or foreign material, but that is not an instruction to brush inside the Gear S3’s speaker or microphone openings. Keep tools and loose fibers out of both openings.
Clean the speaker and microphone safely
- Remove the watch from your wrist and disconnect it from its charger.
- With a clean, dry, soft lint-free cloth, gently wipe the exterior and the edges around the speaker and microphone. Use light pressure and wipe across the surfaces rather than pressing into the openings.
- Check that no fibers or residue have been left around the openings. Do not insert a pin, swab, brush, or other object, and do not use liquid or compressed air to try to clear debris.
- If the watch was exposed to clean water, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth before testing the audio.
Samsung identifies a built-in speaker and a microphone on the Gear S3, but its cited materials do not provide instructions for inserting a cleaning tool into either opening. For stubborn debris lodged inside, avoid improvised methods and ask Samsung service for help.

If the Gear S3 sound is still unclear
Samsung says a wet speaker or microphone can make sound unclear during a call. Let the watch dry thoroughly, then retest. If sound remains unclear after the watch is dry and clean, Samsung’s general smartwatch troubleshooting guidance directs users to service rather than further cleaning attempts.
The Gear S3’s IP68 rating does not make immersion a cleaning method. Samsung Singapore’s support page, last updated October 8, 2020, says not to immerse the watch deeper than 1.5 m or longer than 30 minutes under the stated conditions, and warns that water or dust can still enter and cause damage. Follow the watch’s care guidance rather than rinsing or soaking it to clear an opening.
