Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo send one undelivered RCS message another way in Google Messages, open its conversation, tap the message’s timestamp, then tap Switch to text (SMS/MMS). To make Google Messages try SMS/MMS automatically for future messages when RCS is unavailable, enable the separate fallback setting in RCS chats.
Switch one undelivered RCS message to SMS/MMS
-
Open Google Messages and tap the conversation with the undelivered message.
-
Tap the timestamp associated with that message.
-
Tap Switch to text (SMS/MMS).
Google documents this option for a message that was sent but has not been delivered. An unsent RCS message may continue trying to deliver, so choose the switch explicitly if you want to try a different delivery method. Google Messages Help describes the option this way: “If there’s an error, or you want to try another delivery method, you can switch from RCS to SMS/MMS text.” Google Messages: Send and receive messages.
Set Google Messages to fall back automatically
For future messages, open Profile picture or icon > Messages settings > RCS chats, then turn on Automatically resend as text (SMS/MMS). This is a preference for automatic fallback; it is separate from switching an individual pending message. Google says SMS/MMS may still be used when you have no data or the recipient is offline. See Google Messages Help for RCS settings and delivery details.

What changes when you switch
RCS uses Wi-Fi or mobile data, while SMS depends on cellular carrier service and your plan. SMS/MMS may reach someone when RCS is unavailable, but it does not preserve all RCS capabilities. In particular, Google says messages sent as SMS/MMS are not end-to-end encrypted. Availability, charges, and features depend on your device, carrier, region, and plan.
If SMS/MMS also will not send
Work through these checks; a photo or group-message problem may involve MMS rather than SMS.

If you meant iMessage on an iPhone
iPhone’s similar control applies to failed iMessage, not Google Messages RCS. If a message shows a red exclamation point, tap it and choose Send as Text Message. To allow automatic SMS fallback, go to Settings > Apps > Messages and enable Send as Text Message. Apple notes that messaging rates may apply and recommends checking with your carrier about SMS, MMS, or RCS support. See Apple Support: If you can’t send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad.
