NPR ended comments on NPR.org story pages on August 23, 2016, but said it preserved eight years of comments with their original articles. An archive link may no longer work, and there is no confirmed current tool that finds a person’s first comment across NPR stories.
Start with the NPR story you commented on
- Search the exact headline. Try the story title in quotation marks with Disqus or comments, for example:
"Exact NPR story title" Disqus. - Look for the original story’s archive link. NPR’s follow-up said links to eight years of comments had been archived with the original articles at Disqus. A member-station reproduction of that report is available at KGOU’s “Mailbag: Saying Goodbye To Comments”.
- Check the archived discussion. If the link opens, look for your display name and the comment you remember. Finding one old post does not by itself establish that it was your first.
NPR’s 2016 announcement, reproduced by UALR Public Radio, gave August 23, 2016 as the date comments would end on NPR.org story pages. It described those story-page comments, not every member station or NPR-affiliated website. Read “Beyond Comments: Finding Better Ways To Connect With You”.
If you do not remember the story title
If you used Disqus to comment, your account or profile may offer another lead. Sign in to the Disqus account you used and look for your past activity or comments; you can also search using a display name you remember. This is a practical suggestion, not a verified current Disqus feature, and an NPR account should not be assumed to be the same as a Disqus account.
A historical NPR project page, “The End of Neighborhood Schools — comments”, shows a Disqus-powered comments embed. It is an example of one page, not evidence that every NPR page used an identical system.

What to expect from the archive
NPR’s follow-up described article-linked archived comments; it did not establish a current, sitewide search for a person’s first NPR comment. The archived page may be unavailable, and the available evidence does not confirm that every old comment remains accessible or that profile activity can be sorted to identify a first comment. If a story archive and account history do not turn up the post, you may not be able to recover it through these routes.
