How do I check my Switch 2 battery percentage?
Nintendo documents three ways to see the console’s approximate battery level: Nintendo’s battery-check instructions cover all three.
- Tap the battery icon: In handheld or tabletop mode, tap the battery icon in the screen’s upper-right corner to display the percentage.
- Use the button shortcut: Press ZL and ZR at the same time. The approximate percentage appears briefly.
- Keep the percentage visible: Open System Settings > System, select System Battery (%), and turn it on. Turn it off in the same setting to hide the percentage.
How do I check paired controller battery levels?
From the HOME Menu, select Controllers. The console shows approximate charge for each controller currently paired to it. This display is separate from the console’s battery percentage.
How can I tell if my Switch 2 is charging?
On the HOME Menu, the battery icon in the upper-right changes when charging starts. Tap the icon to see the numeric remaining charge. If the battery is nearly empty, the screen may initially stay blank when you connect power; a charging indicator may appear briefly in the top-left. In that situation, leave the console connected before trying to turn it on. See Nintendo’s charging guidance.

Which charging methods and adapters work?
Nintendo says Switch 2 can charge in a powered Nintendo Switch 2 dock or directly through either USB-C port on the console—the top or bottom port. Its Switch 2 AC adapter, model NGN-01, is compatible.

Nintendo estimates a full charge takes approximately three hours when the system is powered off or in sleep mode; charging takes longer while it is in use. For an adapter replacement, Nintendo identifies NGN-01 as the Switch 2 adapter. The cited guidance does not establish a particular seller, price, or availability.

How long should the battery last?
Nintendo’s US guidance estimates approximately 2 to 6.5 hours of battery life on a full charge, varying with the software and functions being used. It is an estimate, not a guaranteed runtime. See Nintendo’s battery-duration guidance.
What to do if the battery percentage seems wrong
If the console runs for hours while its displayed charge appears nearly depleted, Nintendo recommends resetting the battery meter through Recovery Mode. Follow these steps:

- Power the system off.
- Hold volume up (+) and volume down (-), then press POWER once. Keep holding both volume buttons until Recovery Mode appears. Nintendo says navigating to this menu resets the battery meter.
- Power the system off again, restart it, and monitor the displayed charge.

What to try if the console will not charge
Use Nintendo’s troubleshooting sequence; these steps may help isolate the issue but cannot guarantee a hardware fault will be repaired.

- Remove the console from the dock for the initial checks.
- Unplug the adapter from the wall and from the console or dock. Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect it. Test a different wall outlet, connecting directly to the outlet.
- If the system may be frozen, hold POWER for 20 seconds to force it off. Reconnect power, then press POWER once.
- If the battery is very low and the screen is blank, let it charge for at least 30 minutes before trying to start it.
- If no charging icon appears or the charge does not increase after several hours, try the other USB-C port. If the problem persists, Nintendo says the console may need service.

Lithium-ion batteries gradually lose capacity over time. Nintendo states, “As with most lithium-ion batteries, the Nintendo Switch 2 console battery life will gradually decrease over time.” Its charging guide includes a Stop Charging Around 90% setting under System Settings > System, which may slow that deterioration. With the setting enabled, the console may still charge to 100% occasionally to calibrate the displayed battery level; Nintendo says the frequency depends on usage.
