A third-party OLED replacement is available for the Game Boy Color, but published evidence does not establish how its brightness or battery life compares with the stock LCD. The practical choice is whether to keep the original display or fit a specific replacement kit—and to check that kit’s bundle and installation requirements before buying.
What changes when you replace the original GBC screen?
The original LCD is the display supplied with the Game Boy Color. Hispeedido lists a touch-laminated AMOLED/OLED replacement kit for the console and provides an installation tutorial. Its product notice describes a bundle with a pre-cut shell and battery, but bundle contents can depend on the exact version being sold. Check Hispeedido’s GBC OLED product information and installation tutorial for the version you are considering.
Keeping the stock screen is a reasonable choice if you want to leave the console unmodified. That is a preference, not a demonstrated advantage in quantified reliability, preservation, or resale value.
Is the OLED brighter than the original LCD?
The available product information does not provide a controlled optical measurement comparing Hispeedido’s OLED with the stock GBC display, nor does it state a brightness value for that OLED. Without comparable measurements, there is no sound numeric basis for saying how much brighter one is than the other.

FunnyPlaying sells a separate Retro Pixel IPS LCD kit and specifies that its panel’s maximum brightness is “230 cd /m² (Min.).” That manufacturer specification applies only to the FunnyPlaying IPS product—not to Hispeedido’s OLED or the original LCD. What is known about battery life?
No matched test establishes the runtime of an unmodified GBC versus one fitted with the Hispeedido OLED. The OLED product and installation pages do not state a battery runtime, so claims that the replacement lasts longer or shorter than the stock display are not supported by those sources.

FunnyPlaying publishes power-related notes for its separate IPS kit. Its page says that at 20°C, with the LCD backlight set to gear four, the minimum starting voltage for an original game card was 2V. It recommends 1.5V lithium batteries and notes that the minimum can vary with temperature. These are manufacturer observations for that IPS kit, not an OLED runtime test or a general battery-life result for the Game Boy Color.
A useful stock-versus-OLED runtime comparison would need to specify the console condition, battery chemistry and age, display setting, game or cartridge, and the point at which runtime ends. No such matched comparison is established here.

Will an OLED kit work with your Game Boy Color?
The Game Boy Color plays original Game Boy games, but that platform-level backward compatibility does not establish whether a particular screen kit fits every motherboard revision, shell, or accessory configuration—or works with every flash cartridge. Hispeedido provides an installation tutorial, and its purchase notice describes a GBC OLED bundle with a pre-cut shell and battery. The available product information does not establish universal board-revision compatibility, a complete supported-cartridge list, or identical wiring and shell requirements for every bundle.
Before ordering or opening the console, verify the following against the seller’s current documentation for the exact kit version:

- Whether the kit is compatible with your motherboard revision and intended shell.
- What wiring, soldering, trimming, or other installation work the instructions require for your configuration.
- Whether your cartridge or accessories are covered by any compatibility information the seller provides.
Hispeedido says its products are sold through Amazon and other mainstream retail platforms. That does not confirm that a particular Amazon listing is currently available or that its contents match another listing, so check the live seller page before purchase.

If your priority is an OLED display, evaluate the exact Hispeedido kit and its installation requirements rather than relying on an unsupported brightness or runtime number. If you want a published brightness specification for a replacement screen, FunnyPlaying provides one for its IPS kit, but it describes that product only. If an unmodified console matters most, keeping the stock display avoids a screen replacement.
