Crimson Desert launched worldwide on March 19, 2026, so this list is for players who have not tried it, want a similar game, or are waiting for more content. The closest fit depends on what you want most: open-world discovery, action combat, story-rich quests, or a large world that is easy to roam.

What makes a game feel like Crimson Desert?

Pearl Abyss describes Crimson Desert as an open-world action-adventure set across wilderness, cities, ruins, and varied cultures. Its launch announcement highlights combat with swords, axes, spears, ranged attacks, and hand-to-hand moves, along with flexible progression and traversal such as climbing and gliding. Those features offer a useful comparison baseline, but no single recommendation below matches all of them.

Pearl Abyss announced the game’s global launch in a March 19, 2026 press release: “Pearl Abyss today announced the global launch of its open-world action-adventure Crimson Desert, available worldwide starting on March 19 at 3:00PM PDT.” The company later reported that it announced sales of five million copies worldwide on April 15, 2026.

Which game should you choose?

Game Best fit How it differs
Elden Ring Open-world discovery The recommendation is about organic exploration, not a claim that its combat, story, or difficulty duplicates Crimson Desert.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Action combat and monster encounters A combat-focused alternative, not a clone; comparisons emphasize combat and fighting large creatures.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Story-led fantasy quests Its rich, story-filled world puts more emphasis on narrative, which may not suit players prioritizing combat over lore.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla A large, accessible historical world Its medieval historical setting and action-RPG structure distinguish it from Crimson Desert’s fantasy continent.

Pick by the part of Crimson Desert you want most

For finding your own way: Elden Ring

Choose Elden Ring if the appeal is setting off across an open world and discovering what lies beyond the next landmark. PC Gamer describes exploration and discovery as central to its world. That makes it a strong choice for curiosity-driven roaming, but not necessarily for someone looking for the same combat feel or story structure.

For action and monster fights: Dragon’s Dogma 2

Choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 if you want combat to take the lead. TechRadar says Crimson Desert’s combat may remind players of this game, and community recommendations often point to the series’ fights and climbing large creatures. Treat the resemblance as a combat comparison: the games are not interchangeable.

For quests and fantasy storytelling: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Choose The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt if you want a fantasy world where story and quests are a major draw. PC Gamer highlights its story-filled setting and quest diversions. It is less compelling as a direct pick for players whose main priority is action rather than lore.

For broad, approachable roaming: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Choose Assassin’s Creed Valhalla if you want a large world to explore through free roaming, quests, and treasure hunting. PC Gamer describes travel across medieval England and other realms. Its historical setting makes for a different kind of open-world adventure from Crimson Desert.

Compare exploration, combat, story, and guidance

Before choosing, consider four practical differences. Exploration can mean organic discovery or a more directed set of activities; combat may be the main attraction or one part of a quest-led experience; story emphasis ranges from a central draw to a lighter companion to roaming; and guidance affects how much the game leaves you to work out alone.

The Outer Worlds Xbox One
  • The outer worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi rpg from obsidian entertainment and private division
  • In the outer worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to halcyon, the furthest colony from earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all-vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable

Guidance matters especially for players weighing these titles against Crimson Desert: TechRadar notes that it does not hand-hold players through puzzles and does not offer difficulty options. If you prefer explicit direction or adjustable challenge, look into how a prospective game handles those before committing. The recommendations above are alternatives sharing particular qualities, not promises of the same experience.
