On September 30, Pearl Abyss announced a two-week delay, saying it needed “additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience.” The revised date is the latest official schedule, not a guarantee that the expansion will be available on time. What does the expansion add?
Pearl Abyss describes the DLC as a sea-focused addition to the base game. Its advertised features include ship-based exploration, new islands, underwater treasures and ruins, new enemies and challenges, expanded housing, facility management, and new stories for Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane. These are publisher-described features; the expansion has not yet been independently assessed.

Buy now or wait?
| Choose | It fits if… | What to weigh |

| Buy the base game now | You want a large world to explore and are interested in learning its combat, traversal, progression, and side activities without needing the expansion first. | Critic Mollie Taylor’s March 18, 2026 PC Gamer review rated it 80, praising the abundance of discoveries while describing the game as “obtuse” and criticizing its questing. That is one critic’s review, not a consensus score or an assessment of the game’s current post-launch state. Read PC Gamer’s review. |
| Wait for the DLC | The ships, islands, underwater sites, expanded housing, facility management, or new character stories are what make the game appealing to you. | You can decide after the expansion launches whether its content and reception justify buying the base game and DLC. Its planned date is October 29, 2026. |
The base game is already available; you do not need to wait for the DLC to begin playing it. The practical question is whether the existing game interests you on its own, rather than whether the expansion might eventually improve the package. See the official game page.
