To make a Nokia phone last longer between charges, start by lowering screen brightness and shortening screen timeout. Next, check battery usage and restrict apps that are unusually active, then turn on Battery Saver when you need more runtime. Disable location or wireless connections only when you do not need them. 1. Reduce screen power use
The display is a practical first place to make an adjustment. Lower brightness to a comfortable level and set the screen to turn off sooner when idle.

Brightness controls also differ. The Nokia 2.2 guide recommends turning Adaptive brightness off, while an older Nokia 8 guide gives different advice. Try the brightness option that works best on your device rather than treating either setting as universal Nokia guidance.

2. Find what is using the battery
Open Settings > Battery, if that path is available, and review battery usage. Look for apps that are consuming an unexpectedly large share of power. Menu labels and the detail shown vary by model and Android version.
For apps that do not need to update in the background, use the battery or app controls available on your phone to limit background activity. Be selective: restricting an app can delay messages, alerts, or other updates you expect to receive promptly.
3. Turn on Battery Saver when runtime matters most
Battery Saver is useful when your charge is low or you need the phone to last longer before you can recharge. HMD’s Nokia 2.2 guide gives Settings > Battery > Battery saver as an example path; on another model, search Settings for “Battery Saver” or check its user guide.

Battery Saver can limit or stop background activity, and some apps, network connections, or functions may respond later than usual. Use it when extra runtime is more important than immediate syncing or notifications. Google’s Android battery guidance describes these trade-offs.
4. Restrict apps and adaptive features with care
Some Nokia models offer Adaptive Battery or similar controls that reduce activity for less-used apps. HMD’s Nokia 4.2 guide describes Adaptive Battery and cautions that notifications from less-used apps may be delayed. The feature is not available on every Nokia phone.
If an important app stops notifying you on time after you restrict it, revisit its battery or background-activity settings and allow the activity it needs.

5. Switch off location and connections only when you do not need them
Turn off Bluetooth or location access when you are not using the related accessory or service. Location-dependent apps and features may not work correctly without location access, so avoid disabling it as a blanket battery rule.
Wi-Fi may be preferable to mobile data when a suitable network is available, but the best choice depends on your situation. Airplane mode is an option only when you do not need mobile calls or data; it cuts off mobile-network access and wireless functions. Nokia’s model guides describe selective use of location and Bluetooth, while Google’s guidance explains the consequences of turning off location or connectivity.
6. Protect battery health while charging
Heat advice is about battery care over time, not a guaranteed way to gain extra runtime immediately. Avoid overheating the phone, especially when it is fully charged, and use the power adapter supplied with the phone, following its model-specific instructions. A full-to-empty discharge cycle is not needed to teach the phone its battery capacity, according to Google’s Android battery guidance.
Why Nokia battery settings differ
“Nokia phone” covers multiple models and Android versions, and their menus and battery features are not identical. Google notes that “Your device’s battery life depends on the type of device you have.” Some general Android instructions also apply only to Android 13 or later. Find your exact model in the phone’s settings or packaging, then consult its HMD support guide or the relevant manual before following a menu path.
